Pilipino Sound at Escolta June 4, 2016

Never have I seen Escolta this vibrant at night throughout my whole volunteering career for the gentrification of the place. Last June 4, a group of people organized Pilipino Sound 2016 at Fred’s Revoluccion Restaurant at the newly opened commercial incubator, HUB Make Lab. Pilipino Sound is a celebration of music inspired from “the epic Primavera Sound festival celebrated every year in Barcelona, Spain, on the very same date”, according to their Facebook event page. For 12 hours, international and local DJs set their tunes to resonate with the people’s heart and emotion, keeping them alive  and having fun from noon to midnight. 

In another note, as we also have a stall called The Heritage Collective at the HUB, that day marked our highest gross sales so far since we opened two weeks ago. It’s imperative to think that we owe such economic benefit from art and culture, or from music particulary, brought by that simple event that day. A number of shop goers may have lured by the event, the music, enjoying the mood of spending. Thus in every effort to revive an economy or a community, the role art and culture should never be underestimated.
