After Sean knocks at the door, the Reynolds take about one minute to open the door. Daniel is shivering in cold, coughing, and sneezing. As Sean is about to knock again, Claire and Stephen open the door. Stephen looks at them with a suspicious face. ─ What are you doing here? ─ he asks. ─ Stephen, please… ─ Claire reprehends him. ─ Hello! Oh, Esteban and Sean… She looks at Daniel. ─ Are you… Daniel? ─ Yeah, nice to meet you, grandma. ─ You look like an angel, Daniel. Oh, you must be tired from all that traveling. Let me prepare something for you. They get inside and Claire takes them to the kitchen. Stephen is bothered by Esteban's presence. Esteban feels they are bothered by his presence. ─ So, what brought you here? ─ Claire asks while serving them some tea. ─ We decided to pay you a visit ─ Esteban comments. ─ I know I didn't call earlier, but it was because I lost your number. Sean and Daniel whisper to each other. ─ I think they don't like dad ─ Sean comments. ─ I've noticed that too. ─ You're smart, Daniel. Do you have the power of reading minds now? ─ No, I don't, but wish I had… ─ Esteban, Stephen, may I talk to you for a second? ─ Claire asks. ─ Yeah, sure! ─ Esteban agrees. Things get heated between Esteban and the Reynolds in the livingroom. ─ Karen left because she probably regretted marrying with you ─ Stephan says. ─ Why? Because I am a foreigner? You never approved my marriage with her! ─ You two, calm down, please. The boys might hear you ─ Claire asks. ─ She wasn't unhappy because of me, she was unhappy because you too always pressured her to be who you wanted her to be, you never gave her… ─ Enough, Esteban, you… Claire gets interrupted by Daniel entering the house coughing a lot. Esteban and Stephen are asleep. Claire is doing some chores and Daniel is standing right in front of Karen's room. Claire catches him and gets upset. — What are you doing here, Daniel? Weren't you supposed to be sleeping? — I know, but I kinda got curious. Sean told me this was mommy's room. I don't know anything about her, I… — There's nothing to see here. And you have to go to bed, so that you can recover better. Daniel sighs and returns to the room Claire cleaned and prepared for Sean and him. Since he is tired after the trip, he falls asleep as soon as he lies down. Past midnight, Claire is praying in the living room and Sean stands in front of her. She finishes her pray. ─ What do you need, Sean? ─ I know you don't like my dad. ─ I'm sorry if you had that impression. It's just… he is very different from us. Daniel and Sean are in the living room packing up their things. The snow falls and covers the city and renders it white. It's cold and windy outside. They are still lost about Papito's plans. ─ Where are we going, dad? In the middle of the snow? ─ It's a surprise, Sean. ─ Dad, I hope it's a nice place! ─ I hope you'll enjoy our Christmas trip. ─ Why can't we stay home this Christmas? ─ Daniel asks. ─ That's what we do every single year. For this year, I wanted to try something different. ─ Can I bring Mushroom with me? ─ I... I'm not sure... I... ─ Then I won't be going with you, sorry. I won't leave my dog alone! ─ I think you can bring him with us, then. Just... keep him at a safe distance from me. ─ And don't forget, Daniel: wherever we are going, whomever you meet, don't tell them about your powers! ─ Okay, Sean! You can do this, enano! ─ I'll try. Daniel concentrates and activates his power. The rock seemed too heavy for him to lift, but he did it seconds later. Esteban and Sean are impressed. ─ ¡Increíble! I'm so proud of you, Daniel! ─ Esteban comments. ─ You're getting good at it. You'll be lifting heavy cars and stuff in no time! Not that you should, though... ─ I wish I could use my powers to bring us some pizza! They all laugh. ─ Okay, let's go back to the road! We can stop somewhere a few kilometers ahead to order a pizza. ### Back in the car, one hour after their practice: ─ So, dad, we are going to Beaver Creek... ─ Sean comments. ─ Yeah... ─ Are we gonna visit our grandparents? ─ It's been a long time since we visited them for the last time. So I thought... ─ Are we visiting our grandparents? ─ Daniel asks, excited. ─ Really? Do you think they're gonna like me? ─ Of course, son. They'll surely love you! ─ Daniel, don't forget the rules! ─ Sean warns him. ─ Don't use your powers, regardless of the situation, and most importantly, don't tell them about it. You know why? ─ Uhm... ─ You can do it... ─ Well, people can get scared? ─ Exactly. ─ I'm kinda worried about you, Daniel ─ Esteban says. ─ Because of me killing that wild cougar back in the forest?! ─ I think it isn't safe for you to use your powers freely until you're psychologically well and mature for doing so, hijo. ─ I didn't mean to kill that animal, dad, I swear! I just wanted to protect us, and Mushroom! That beast was going to attack us! ─ Let's forget about it, okay? ─ Esteban proposes. ─ But I think you shouldn't use your powers for now. ─ I understand... It's five PM, and they finally arrive at their grandparents' house. The trip took way longer than expected due to blocked roads and they getting distracted along the way. Sean knocks at the door.

It's two in the morning, but Sean and Lyla didn't notice the time passing while they were at the Denny Blaine Park watching the sky, relaxing, venting, and wondering about going to space. Sean looks at his watch. "WTF, 2 AM? My dad is gonna kill me! I… I have to go home". Lyla tries to calm him down and convinces him that she is going to talk to Esteban so he wouldn't scold him.

They run back to Sean's house. When they arrive home, Esteban seemed desperate, but now relieved to see Sean.

─ I thought you had escaped from home because of our argument earlier. I was so desperate, your brother called me to tell me you escaped. Hijo, I'm sorry if I said something that might have hurt you. ─ Dad, I… I'm sorry, I just needed some time alone. And I was safe, I was with Lyla. ─ Hi ─ Lyla says. ─ You're still grounded, nevertheless, Sean. You live in my house, rules are rules. ─ Come on, Esteban, can you… ─ No exceptions for Sean, Lyla. He did something wrong, and he has to learn from his mistakes. ─ It seems Boss Esteban won't, Sean. I tried my best, but he didn't even let me speak. ─ Come on, hijo, you left me desperate. Don't you think I deserve a hug?

Sean rolls his eyes. ─ I'm sorry for everything. He hugs his father. ─ I love you, Sean. ─ This was all Daniel's fault. He's such a jerk! ─ He isn't. And I'm glad he told me you left home without my permission. Luckily you're back, safe and sound. Are you calmer now? ─ Yeah… talking to Lyla really helped me. Esteban looks at Lyla, grateful. ─ Thanks for being a nice friend to my son. I'm relieved that he has someone to look after him. ─ This is such an easy task… most of the time. I mean, I like spending time with Sean, he's like… the nicest guy in this town. Daniel comes running and hugs Lyla. ─ Hi, Lyla! ─ Hi, Daniel! ─ Thank you for bringing my bro back home. ─ You're welcome ─ she laughs while caressing Daniel's hair. Daniel looks at Sean, mad. ─ You're a bad bro, Sean! I miss the times when you were nicer to me… ─ I'm sorry, Daniel… it's just that many things have been going on in my mind recently. I'm a little stressed. ─ Daniel, give him a break ─ Lyla gently asks. Teenage years are sometimes hellish. Life is Strange 2 - Alternate Storyline - Episode II ("Discoveries") - Part I

After writing my fanfic (Life is Strange 2 - What if Esteban hadn't died?) and presenting you an alternate storyline where Esteban is alive instead, I got so carried on and attached to this idea that I'm planning to bring it further. So I am doing an "Episode 2". The original is called "Rules", but since mine follows a completely different storyline, I will be calling it "Discoveries", since it'll be mostly about Sean and Daniel discovering more about themselves (Sean still has a lot to learn about himself, and Daniel needs to practice his powers, for example).

In my version, they will still visit their grandparents, but things will proceed differently. Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading it and please give it a like and comment to let me know you enjoyed it, so that I can bring you more content like this. Thank you so much for your attention!

It's Friday. Sean comes back from school and locks himself in his bedroom and puts loud music to distract himself from his bad day at school and a some stuff that have been going on his mind recently. Daniel is playing videogame in the living room and Esteban is working on the garage. He is tired and stressed because his children have been fighting a lot recently. From time to time he needs to intervene.

He gets bothered by the loud music, and he knows it is coming from Sean's bedroom. He leaves the garage and goes to his son's bedroom. He knocks at the door, but Sean doesn't listen. He is lying on his bed, focused on… nothing. Stressed, Esteban opens the door and screams at him, asking for him to lower down the volume. Sean also gets stressed and angry when his dad asks him a favor: taking care of Daniel tonight because his dad wants to go out with his friends, to relax a little. He turns off the music.

Esteban argues that he is tired as well, and he also has the right to hang out with his friends sometimes. They continue arguing and Sean complains about how much he is tired of babysitting Daniel. Esteban then notices this argument isn't going anywhere, thus he ends the conversation by telling his son that he is grounded for the weekend for his bad behavior. He goes back to work after taking a deep breath to calm down. Sean throws a couple of objects onto the wall, lies on his bed and starts crying.

Later, after Esteban goes out with his friends Sam and Nick, Daniel enters Sean's room with Mushroom on his arms. He's sleeping, but Daniel wakes him up when Mushroom arks at Sean. He wakes up scared. Daniel laughs at him. Sean is calmer by now. Daniel says he wants to play with him and Mushroom in the backyard, but Sean refuses and says he is in no mood for that. Daniel starts complaining, but Sean expels him from his bedroom nevertheless.

He picks up his phone and texts Lyla. She quickly texts him back and invites him to hang out because she is bored, and sends him a heart emoji. He tells her he is grounded this weekend after an argument with his dad. She insists and promises to him that she can talk to his dad later. Sean sighs and replies to her with a heart and an OK emoji. He puts his phone on his desk and walks to the bathroom, to apply some perfume, bush his teeth and wash his face.

He quietly walks towards the living room and searches for the key. When he finally finds it, Daniel appears, scaring him and asking him what he was going to do. "It's none of your business", he says. Daniel threatens him and says he is going to call dad if he gets out from home. Sean pushes him, opens it and leaves. Daniel, with tears in his eyes, asks himself: "doesn't he love us anymore? Why is he acting like that with me?".

Lyla is waiting for him at the Denny Blaine Park, sitting by the Washington Lake, lost in her thoughts about the guy he is in love with. Sean arrives and they both smile when they see each other. "Dad is gonna kill me, and Daniel is probably going to tell him that I escaped for a while", he comments. "Let's forget about all that shit. You had a bad day at school. Let's just… take a breath and relax, man", she suggests. They lie down on the grass and stare at the stars, seizing the moment and focusing only on themselves, at that place, at that time. Nothing else matters.

Life is Strange 2 - What if Esteban hadn't died? - Part V - EPISODE 1 FINISHED

Sean wakes up after a horrible nightmare. His dad also wakes up to him and Daniel screaming.

— Calm down, my boys. ¿Qué pasó?

Daniel can't stop crying.

— What happened, enano?

— Sean, I dreamed of our dad being killed in front of us. And then we had to escape from the police. It was so horrible.

Daniel hiccups from all the crying. Sean hugs him.

— This is weird, ‘cause I had the same nightmare.

— You can calm down now and rest assured that papito is still here, alive, perfectly fine, and healthy.

Daniel calms down and stops crying. With the warm hug from Esteban and Sean, he slowly falls asleep again.

— I guess he's calmer now.

— Yeah, I think so, hijo.

— Dad, isn't it weird that Daniel and I had the same dream?

— It seems like you're traumatized. I get you. It wasn't easy when I immigrated to the US. People used to treat me as if I were a bad person or a thief.

— And how did you handle all that?

— I just didn't care. Bad people are everywhere.

— Sometimes they live very near to us. Like our asshole neighbor, for example. By the way, dad, Can you tell me more about why you're so obsessed with Puerto Lobos?

— Well… you know, Sean, it's my hometown. Besides, despite the lack of good job opportunities, it provides us with freedom. Something I as an immigrant will never find in the US.

— I get you, dad. Will you ever take us there?

— One day, hijo, one day.

— Anyway, Sean, since you’re older now and probably feeling attracted to other people already and having quite a few crushes here and there, I think it's about time we talk about “that stuff”.

— Come on, dad!

— It's important that we talk about this — Esteban insists, with a strong Mexican accent.

— Dad...

— Don't be ashamed to ask me anything you might not know. I know you might know a lot of stuff, but...

— Dad, what's the point of this conversation?

— I just want you to know that sexuality is a broad spectrum. But I want you to be aware that I'll always love you, hijo, no matter who you end up falling in love with.

—I'm completely lost, dad. Can we change the topic?

— Oh, you're not ready to talk about this with me. Okay, no pressure. Oh, yeah, I want to know one thing… What about that Jenn, hijo?

— Well… I didn't go to the party, so… yeah, I missed my chance to impress her and maybe kiss her. But at least I could spend some time with you and Daniel in the woods. It was quite fun.

— What about Lyla then? You two are so close.

— Well, ehm… we are only friends… I guess…

— Then why are you so nervous?

— Dad, come on…

— Okay, Sean. I’ll leave you alone. It seems you don't want to talk to dad today. You prefer to keep hiding things from me and leave it all up to me to guess everything, huh? Okay, no problem.

─ What do you mean? I...

─ Well...

They go back to sleep. The next morning, they play hide and seek beside the river after eating breakfast. Esteban is the winner, and the boys had a hard time finding him. They finally go back to the road. Esteban plans to stay a bit in Arcadia Bay before returning to Seattle.

After a whole day of driving around, Esteban stops at Otter Point. Sean looks at Daniel, and he is in the backseat sleeping while hugging his dog.

— Daniel being Daniel.

Esteban sneezes.

— I think I will get out of the car to breathe some fresh air.

He gets out and stares at the city from the Otter Point. Sean does the same.

— Are you okay, dad?

— Yeah. I’m just… thinking about some things.

— Things like?

— Nevermind, Sean.

— Are you thinking about my mom?

Esteban sighs.

— Sometimes I still think about her, it’s inevitable. Sometimes I think about what I could’ve done differently.

— Dad, you did nothing wrong. It was all her fault. She was the one who abandoned her own family.

Esteban turns his back and goes back to his car. Sean does the same.

— You’ll get a driver's license soon, hijo.

A few kilometers ahead, he stops at a roadside motel. They unpack their things in their room.

— Great, my boys. Now I’m going to take a shower. I will come back in a few minutes. And, please, don’t fight!

— We won’t, I promise — Daniel promises.

Esteban hugs him.

— I know you can be a good kid, Daniel.

He looks at Sean.

— Please look after him until I come back.

Sean rolls his eyes because he finds caring for his little brother boring. Esteban goes to the bathroom to heat up the water. Daniel picks up the remote control and turns the TV on.

— Can you watch this episode with me, Sean? Please?

— Nah.

— Why?

— I have seen it a thousand times already.

— When did you become so boring?

— I’m not boring, it’s just… I’ve grown older, I’m not a kid anymore.

Daniel starts getting mad.

— Besides, I wanna call Lyla right now. I miss her. We can watch it later. There are some things I have to tell her and…

— I want to do it now!!! — Daniel screams, furiously, after his brother refuses to give him attention.

The lights oscillate, a strong wind torrent enters the room through the window, and objects begin floating and being thrown at Sean. Sean is scared and Esteban rushes to see what is happening.

— What’s happening here?! — Esteban asks.

Sean hugs Daniel.

— Calm down, Daniel…

Daniel slowly calms down and everything goes back to normal. He is also scared himself.

— What… happened…

— Woah… you have powers? — Esteban is surprised.

— Am I a monster? — Daniel asks, about to cry.

— It was a bit unexpected, but… no, hijo, you aren’t a monster.

— I think it’s better if no one else finds out about this — Sean suggests. — At least for now…

— I just don’t understand… what could’ve triggered it?

They are all shocked by what happened.

Esteban and his sons are by the fire. They are eating marshmallows. The wind blows gently. The atmosphere around them is soothing. The sound of the crickets, the water, and the leaves can be heard. ─ Dad, why did my mom run away after she gave birth to me? Was it because of me? Daniel's eyes become watery. ─ No, Daniel, that's not it. It's just… she was unhappy with her life. It's not your fault, Daniel. Maybe I, as her husband, could have done more to… ─ Dad, it's not your fault that that selfish woman decided to abandon us for no reason. ─ I know, Sean, but I was her husband, I shoulda… Sean looks at Daniel. ─ Promise to me we won't talk about this ever again! ─ Come on, Sean! ─ You two, please, don't get into a fight! We came here to relax a bit.

─ Dad, I deserve to know about my mom! Why does Sean forbids me to ever ask about her? ─ I do that to protect you, Daniel, but you're so heard-headed. ─ Okay, Sean, enough. As he is about to text his friend Lyla, it runs out of battery. ─ Fuck, my phone ran out of battery! ─ Take it as a positive thing. It feels good to be disconnected from everything and just seize the moment sometimes. That's why we came here, right? ─ Yeah… They both lie on the grass and look at the clear sky filled with stars and a crescent moon. ─ Another thing I enjoy about the wild is that we can see way more stars. Sean looks at his dad and notices he already fell asleep. ─ Dad… you must have been tired as well. He yawns. ─ I think I'm gonna sleep too. Sean closes his eyes and begins having a nightmare about him and his brother at the front of their house and that same police officer from the previous day. Dad comes, and the police officer shots at him, instantly killing him in front of them. Anxious and highly emotive, Daniel accidentally activates his telekinesis powers and ends up killing the cop. Sean and his brother run away from the city as fast as they can, afraid of the police.

Esteban drives towards Mount Rainier National Park. Sean looks lost in his thoughts while Daniel plays Minecraft on his phone. ─ Sean, are you okay? You've been quiet, hijo. ─ I'm fine, dad. It's just… a lot has been going on my mind recently. I'm thinking about some things, but I'm okay. ─ If you ever need to talk, I'm right here. ─ Thanks, dad. He decides to stop by a gas station. ─ Okay, hijos. We are having a quick stop to use the bathroom and buy something. He gives Sean twenty dollars. ─ Dad, what is this for? ─ You can buy something for you and Daniel. But please, choose wisely. Money isn't infinite. I wish it were, though. But you'll have to promise to me that you'll keep everything clean and keep that dog at a safe distance from me. ─ I will, I will! ─ Daniel jumps in joy. ─ I think we are going to need to buy her some food. You can wait for me in the car. ─ Okay, dad. The cashier gives the dog to Daniel. They go outside the store and wait for their dad inside the car. Esteban comes back two minutes later. ─ Great! Now let's get back to the road. He sneezes. ─ Daniel, I told you it wasn't a good idea to… ─ I'm fine, Sean. It's just a sneeze. My allergy isn't actually that bad. I think… He sneezes again.

It's almost 6 PM. Shaun, Daniel, and Esteban are walking through the forest to find a place to camp at. ─ It's getting dark ─ Esteban says. ─ Dad, when I look at those signs, I remember the time when you taught me to read them. Those memories are so important to me. ─ For me too, son. Daniel runs with his dog. ─ Slow down, Daniel! ─ Esteban requests. ─ We are tired of walking already. ─ That enano never runs out of energy. ─ He reminds of me when I was his age. I was unstoppable. I miss those times, when life was easier. ─ Sometimes you just have to slow down and rest a bit, dad. ─ It's hard to find an opportunity to do this, you know. I have a family now, two sons to raise… ─ I appreciate how much you try to be a good dad for Daniel and me, but sometimes you need some time to yourself. Why don't you go out with your friends? You can even go out alone. What about you? ─ I'm… I don't know. ─ Do you need to talk? ─ No… I mean… nevermind. ─ Whenever you need to talk, just reach me out, son. I understand you might be going through a difficult phase. I get you, I've been there too. ─ Dad, come on… I'm not a kid. ─ Okay… since you're there, could you please give me the wrench? ─ Which one? ─ The 16th millimeter one. ─ Okay, let me find it. Sean looks everywhere. He finally finds the wrench and hands it over to his dad. ─ Gracias, hijo. ─ Dad, don't you think you need to rest? ─ Well, maybe… I miss spending some time outside with my amazing hijos. Esteban gets between his sons and the police officer, who holds a gun in his direction.

─ Are you really going to shoot at me? For no reason? Please, please listen to us first. I want to know what happened. Let's calm down.

The police officer puts the gun down.

─ Okay.

Esteban looks at Sean.

─ What did you do to Brett? Please tell me the truth.

─ Daniel accidentally spilled zombie blood onto his shirt. But this is all that's happened. But this motherfucker thinks it was on purpose.

─ This is a lie! He did it on purpose! This dumb and stupid little kid!

─ Hey, don't say that about my little bro!

Sean almost beats Brett, but Esteban holds him.

─ Don't do it, son. It'll make things worse for us.

Sean calms down.

─ You all, please go home! I have more important matters to care about ─ the police officer orders.

Brett shows his middle finger at Sean and Daniel. Sean does the same and hugs his brother tightly.

─ Are you okay, Daniel? He didn't hurt you, did he?

The police officer looks at Esteban with a mad face.

─ What could I expect from two kids raised by a Mexican dad? That's why we can't let you immigrants take over America, or else violence will spread! You will never be welcome in this country! Sincerely, I hope a decent president takes over and builds a wall to keep those assholes away.

He goes back into his car and drives it away. Esteban is still bothered by what he's just heard but tries not to show it. They all get inside.

─ So... I think papito here needs to get back to work. And please, don't get into any more trouble. Things aren't easy for immigrants like me in this country.

Sean goes towards him.

─ Dad, wait...

Esteban looks at him.

─ I... I just wanted to say... please don't get bothered by what that stupid police officer said to you. You are a good dad and both me and Daniel love you.

─ I know it, son...

He, still sad, goes back to repairing the car he was working on. He doesn't want his children to see him unhappy. Sean is worried about him and talks to Daniel.

─ Daniel, I think dad is sad about what happened.

─ Yeah... what if we... bought a pizza for him?

─ I don't think that would do much to cheer him up, but we could try. He had given me some money for the party, but... I think spending that money buying something for him would be worth it.

─ But... won't you go to the party tonight, Sean?

─ Nah... I'm okay. I prefer staying with my family, especially after almost losing my dad.

─ Did you see that guy point a gun at him?

─ Yeah... By the way, I have to get back to my bedroom. Lyla is waiting for me on Skype. See you later, Daniel, and DO NOT enter my room!

Sean goes back to his room and resumes the call with Lyla.

─ Why did you leave out of a sudden?

─ You won't believe it, shit happened.

─ What shit?

─ Long story. By the way, I wanna say that I'm not going to the party tonight. I wanna spend some time with my dad.

─ Wow, how did you change your mind so fast? You never cared that much about him.

─ I know, but...

─ What about Jenn? Weren't you excited to see her at the party?

─ Yeah, I was, but... there'll be other opportunities for that in the future.

─ I wouldn't be so sure of that. But, if that's your decision... by the way, I'm also not going to the party tonight. At least not without you. It would be boring to go there without you.

─ I see... so, talk to you later?

─ Yep. I'm still very confused. You were super excited for the party.

─ I know... bye, see you later.

─ Bye, Sean! I like you so much... I mean... as a friend... anyway, never mind.

She immediately turns off the call. Sean gets up and looks for his sketchbook and a pencil. He sits on his bed and starts drawing a forest. In the drawing, he is sitting on a rock beside his dad and brother near a river. His imagination goes wild, and he gets lost in his thoughts. He feels as if he were there.

I've been playing Life is Strange 2 recently and I feel like writing a fanfic about it. I actually want to imagine what would have happened if that motherfucker police officer hadn't shot at Esteban. HE DIDN'T DESERVE TO DIE, HE WAS A CARING FATHER! I WILL NEVER ACCEPT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED! Only Anne knows how much I have cried already because of that scene!
