“It’s hard to say now what it was – lucky coincidence or recklessness, plan or improvisation, though it doesn’t really matter. Till the end of August, 2017 we could not stop thinking how wonderful it would be to play ambient in the open air. Presumably not for listeners, but for ourselves.
To go outside, mount the equipment, do 3D mapping over natural objects and make some quiet droning, recording, shooting and enjoying all that ”jazz”. But the situation did not resolve itself for many reasons.
Suddenly we were invited to make a couple of ambient performances on Olknon Island, lake Baikal and puzzle stated to be solved quickly, consistently and exactly in the way we wanted. All we had to do is not to interfere and play.
We (Mikhail, Schrab and me) talked a lot those days about leave-no-trace being. Present-day human is so deeply programmed to “leave his mark in hystory” that he has already left shamelessly more than enough. Any attempt to leave brighter and deeper trace leads only to information noise increase likewise any inscription "Jack used to be here" inevitably will accrue with another inscription "and shitted on himself".
It’s high time to do some cleaning and not to leave-traces for a while. And now let’s see a short movie made by Schrab about this uncommon adventure of Live Soundscaping Project on Olkhon Island, Lake Baikal
SPOILER: There were no uncommon adventures: only boundless drone and pitch-dark ambient. And when the last chord faded away in sea-cliffs and the last photon faded away in projector lens all around became the same as was before” © Svyatoslav “Mif” Opritov
