July 07 Update
So Iâve halted progress on Project Samurai for the time being to work on a super exciting project that Iâve fallen in love with! and this time itâs not another video game :O. Details will come soon.
Just a little update, you can now teach skills to the units!
Early June update
So I was on holiday which halted a lot of progress but Iâm back now, making sure and steady progress. This week has mostly been fixing the bugs that were introduced with the new event system as well as improving the event system itself.
Currently Iâm adding another 8 odd events into the game to expand the content and then Iâll release it to the The âExtracurricular Societyâ game dev group that Iâm with for feedback.

Added some skills to move the enemy around, donât like their position, no worries.

Decided itâs time to give the map screen some more love!
Starting to give troops more noticeable tactics to help change up the battle.
Update
Just created a new build, adding plenty more feature, mostly around buffs and skills at the moment and still plenty to do in that regard. But the build has a much better user experience and I feel itâs definitely going in the right direction.
But still so much to do!

Space Justice Warriors
A crack team of space peace keepers that zoom through space, bringing gnarly justice and peace to all habitable worlds (and only taking a few natural world resources in exchange).Â
These beefed up warriors save countless worlds from monsters, zombies, space threats, Â other higher beings and worst of all space terrorists!!!

I canât sleep!
So much for a solid 8 hours then! but my brain is reeling with ideas for the game.
After sending the game to a few people I received positive feedback but also that itâs currently a good base, a starting point to expand and that they look forward to where I take it.Â
Right now itâs obvious that the best tactic is a high DPS, but I need to create more tactics and approaches and now seems like the best time to chuck ideas down on paper!
Cooldowns on skills, currently being spammed too much.
Better use of the grid and attacks that take advantage of it.
Need more Dots! : Iâll add my abilities for damage over time, especially with mages.
Construction skills/ units - units that can create walls or towers.
Skills that stun/ restrict enemies.
Buff/ Debuff skills - Blind enemys, turn ranged into melee.
Grid skills - skills that push enemies to the back row, or draw them into the front.
Iâll think of more but in summary break units into roles: DPS, TANKS, DOTS, HEALERS, SUPPORT, ENGINEERS.
Even still we need more approaches to winning... It shouldnât always be about smashing their army to bits... breaking morale? something to do with spies/ infiltration? destroying the line of command? converting troops? spreading disarray?

Quick Update
So the new battle system is basically in, I havenât programmed any spells yet but the main chunk is done, I have a lot to tweak and improve on with the system but Iâm starting to see a lot more diversity which is nice, that was pretty much the aim in this game. The dialogue events I have are getting very stale so I want to start adding a lot more of those, itâs probably about time I start working on a separate tool to easily create them.
The game is still very confusing UI wise, but Iâm not too worried about that yet, once I get a designer on board they can fix all of that :P. Overall I think the game is going in the right direction. Iâm starting to see myself thinking about different approaches I can take while playing, Iâm getting the feeling of diversity and tactics coming through, now I really need to push that front to create a bigger world where the player has more freedom and choice of how to expand on the starting resources.
