scrunching her nose in disgust, she reached for her pillow to smack him in the face. “lovable my ass,” she muttered, falling back onto the bed next to him. “and you love it when i update you on my life. it makes your life just a little more exciting since you have nothing going for you.” her jaw dropped open and she grabbed her pillow to smack miles in the face again. “ew! ew! ew! nasty! those poor girls, having sex with a crapbucket like you. to make up for this assault on my mind, you’ll have to get the rest of the bags. shoo, shoo.”

miles deflected her pillow with his arm. “hey, hey, hey. not the money maker,” he pointed to his face, feigning offense. “if you think about it, i actually am the only lovable guy in your life. see? i read your texts. speaking of all them, how are all the other guys in your life?” he let rena have the second smack, just to make her feel a little better, of course. “ugh - this ‘s just your excuse because you can’t carry these bags over even if you wanted to.” miles drudged on his way to pick them up, calling out, “jesus, what the hell is in these? rocks? i wouldn’t be surprised. you probably throw them at all the guys who’ve hurt your feelings, huh?” he asked mockingly, letting them crash to the floor of her room, hoping they wouldn’t break his toes.

“that was so uncool, i can’t believe i actually missed you,” rena called out, grabbing another one of her bags. “i mean really, you haven’t seen your best friend in months and you have the balls to just diss her like this? i’m hurt. i’m absolutely hurt,” she ranted, breathing heavily from the amount of energy she was exerting. she was too dainty for this kind of work. “and quit lying, you have no date tonight. i bet you haven’t gotten laid since winter break.” she slipped past him with her suitcase, clamoring into her old room. “poor baby,” she mocked.

“of course you missed me; i’m the most lovable guy you know.” miles walked into her room, hesitating for just a second when he saw how empty and unusual it looked. “okay, i don’t think it counts when you text me to rant every hour. it’s like i can hear your shrill, whiny voice every time i get on my phone,” he complained, flopping onto rena’s bed with his hands behind his head. “yeah, right,” he laughed that she would even suggest such a thing. “you’d be surprised how easy it is to get girls into bed with this accent. especially at college,” he smirked wildly yet again, trying as hard as he could to gross her out - just as usual.

“wow, useless as ever,” rena drawled, leaning back on her suitcases before it tipped over. she flailed around before regaining her balance. she shot up to her feet, flipping her hair over her shoulder. “you didn’t see that. and give me that hug, you stupid tree dweller.” rena reached her arms out, waiting expectantly.

with raised eyebrows and a small snort, he continued to lean onto the wall as he watched his friend sprawl about. miles nodded with a smirk plastered on his face as he started to go in for a hug. just when he was almost attached to the small girl, he ducked under her arm and picked up a suitcase, hoisting it up onto his shoulder. “ha! you wish,” he chuckled, striding down the hallway to place the bag in rena’s old room. looking back over his other shoulder, he spoke a little louder so she could hear him, “got a hot date tonight and already showered. maybe save the hug for tomorrow?” he suggested smugly.

rena dropped her bags in front of the door, huffing quietly. that’s cool, she didn’t need help. nope, little rena with tons of crap shoved into a bunch of boxes and suitcases did not need help moving back home. bitter and exhausted, she sat down on top of one of the sturdier suitcases, sending her dad a string of passive aggressive text messages. “who wants to help me move my shit back into my house?!” she called out, wiping the sweat from her brow. “if you’re a robber, you can take brady’s stuff.”

“both of those are probably the last things i wanna do...” miles strolled into rena’s front door right behind her. crossing his arms and leaning against the wall, he spoke and wrinkled his nose, “you know, i might’ve even considered giving you a hug, but not with all that sweat dripping off you.”

Thanks to this fucking hurricane, it looks like i’m not able to get out of this little town to go to Harvard for another couple months. But, thankfully, I am able to take back control of the cheer team - since i am home - and continue to make their lives suck again. So, i guess this isn’t all bad.

At least you know that you’re making their lives suck.
