Demeter, Kore and Hekate, by Eduardo Chicharro Aguera
my favourite tragedy...
*insane voice* the bacchae is fundamentally about the inability to separate yourself from your body. cadmus and tiresias are old and feeble - although they feel young and strong again through dionysus, they cannot achieve that state of youth again. likewise pentheus, no matter how he dresses or holds himself, is unable to change his body, and unable to hide it when dionysus reveals him as a man to the maenads - his body is the thing that dooms him from the start. dionysus takes on a mortal guise, but at the end of the play he breaks free from the limitations of the human form to reveal himself as a god. the mortal characters have no such freedom. at every turn they are trapped and confined by their bodies.

ANONYMOUS On Statues of Dionysus and Heracles
Both are from Thebes, both warriors, and both sons of Zeus. The one wields well his thyrsus, the other his club. The statues of both are close together and like are the arms they bear, the one a fawn-skin, the other a lion-skin; cymbals the one, a rattle the other. To both Hera was a cruel goddess, and both through fire went from earth to the immortals.

I spent all of my free time today making this goofy paper doll puppet thing. 2/10 experience do not recommend. I will do it again
Here’s the back. I might share a base pattern if anyone wants.
Anyhow I was thinking about like. Paper dolls and stop motion and puppets and shit i don’t really know dude.

“The Sacrifice of Polyxena”, 17th century Chinese tapestry, part of a series llustrating the story of the Trojan War, made for sale to the Portuguese market. More than a bit chaotic when reduced to internet size, no doubt far more effective in person.
