I released this comic “Do You Remember?” in time for Kaigai Manga Festa in November 2017. TCAF sponsored tables for various Canadian cartoonists of which I was one. You can also download a PDF file of this comic at my Patreon for free as well. If you like to own a physical copy you can purchase it on my webstore. This comic is a prelude to a longer work called “How Can I Forget?” which I will eventually finish some day…

Typography Tuesday
For this #Typography Tuesday, we are reblogging this lovely post by @design-is-fine of typographic page spreads from Gendai Shogyo Bijutsu Zenshu (“The Complete Commercial Artist”) published in Tokyo in 24 volumes from 1927 to 1930. Edited by the Japanese graphic designer Hamada Masuji (1892-1938), it is one of the foundational publications of modern graphic design in Japan, combining theory and history with thousands of examples of completed designs and design proposals arranged by topic. Among the hallmarks of the journal, as shown here from volume 15, was its demonstration of the changes taking place in traditional Japanese lettering styles as they were being influenced by Art Nouveau and contemporary European type design. The Letterform Archive offers an array of lovely digitized page spreads from The Complete Commercial Artist. Here’s one of our faves:

Wool Rugs Resembling Pastures by Alexandra Kehayoglou
Beings of strange form and appearance made by the gods in ancient times. Favored with great strength and intellect, the Espers knew power far beyond that of men, but their power made them proud, and at length they sought to challenge the gods. Seeing this, the gods were angered and struck down their blessed children, and binding their souls and flesh with the Glyph of the Beast, they stole their freedom for all eternity. Now they are bound to live only when summoned by their Glyph, to serve whosoever called them forth.
