I wanted to play at least a little with unreal colors and forms made of fractals and ideas of rot/mimicry/apocalypse since that was a lot of the Vibe TM that Splash's fic left me with and while I think I could've done more if I was more patient, I just needed some kind of release from the vice grip this fic has had on my mind for solidly the past four days.

This isn't the only thing I want to make in this universe (and is not the Project TM I've been alluding to chewing on) but it is one of the ideas that's been zooming around my head

Kaiba having a fondness for kids and wanting to see them have fun and share in the things he’s built is a great character detail that fits him very well but as w many characters like that it’s like wow that’s so interesting, how’s your own inner child doing. Yeah how’s he doing. Bc it kinda sounds like you keep him locked up in a trauma cage and most of his enrichment comes from letting him play card games through the bars. Can think of one thing of Gozaburo’s you failed to destroy bud and it’s in your brain unfortunately! You became your own persecutor while you weren’t looking!! Whoops!! “Nobody will EVER put me in a cage again,” said the guy actively locking himself in his cage. Love that for him

something very beautiful about how introductory Cards With Teeth Kaiba spends so much time pretending to be nice and polite and smiley and the actual semi-redeemed Kaiba we get to know later is a blunt unpleasant jackass. i like that less evil Kaiba is a noticeably more difficult to get along with Kaiba, and the narrative rejection of "good = niceness, social skills" that implies. sometimes getting the evil banished from your heart involves becoming more of a bitch. guy who stopped masking

Either I'm seeing things because of how my YGO au fanfic is going or Mr. Kazuki Takahashi was a god damn genius in disguise.

Ok here me out folks. It's about Bakura and his name, the potential meaning behind it and how it could potentially NOT be some random name the creator came up with on a whim. I promise I'll be quick. So we break his name into three syllables with how its often pronounced in the series.

Ba-Ku-Ra.

Anyone who knows just the absolute basics of Ancient Egyptian mythos knows that Ra is one of the names of the Sun God. One of the most important gods of Egypt as he commanded the very power of the sun and the prosperity it brought to Egypt by bringing daylight every time he rode his barge. He was one of the most popular gods in the naming conventions of a King's "Horus name" spanning several dynasties. He was essentially the God King of King's. The word Ba; while just a pinch more complex for those just beginning to look into Egyptian lore means soul/to be endowed with a soul. Are you all starting to put the puzzle together? Good cause there's one more lil tid bit left. Which brings us to Ku. When pronounced by the series characters it gives a 'khu' sound. Bah-khu-ra. Now are you ready for the drop? Khu translates to "flame" from Ancient Egyptian. Now put that all together and you roughly get this. "Endowed with the flaming soul of Ra."

Personal names were extremely important in Egyptian culture as they had great meanings or significance, often revealing what god someone believed in and/or their aspirations. Someone clearly gave this kid a passionate name during his era hoping he'd accomplish great things only for him to trash that hope because of a tragedy. He STILL went on to achieve great feats but they were for all the wrong (right in his mind) reasons.

And then came Ryou's family and the rest is in the text. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. I'll let you all stew on this. :v If this was already all figured out then please disregard my asinine assumptions because I have been outside of the fandom for years and have only been recently reminded of my love for the series. (But wait! Theres another one! Round Two of a potential meaning behind Bakura's name. )

obviously the guy holding an entire restaurant hostage is not sympathetic but it is very funny for Atem to put him in a situation where he will literally die if he doesn't break the rules and then go "You broke the rules! This is clearly because you are a bad person who deserves a penalty." Atem his inability to follow game rules is completely unrelated to the reasons he is a bad person. You just wanted to set a guy on fire. This is only the second guy ever and you're already fucking up this whole "the game reveals why you're evil" thing can you please lock in
