Cat stopped mid stride when she noticed the young man who had just come out of his house, looking like he’d seen a ghost. She took a tentative step towards him, her hands held in front of her, almost in surrender. “Are you okay?”

Milo took a couple of careful steps back, putting some distance between him and the girl. He didn’t know her at all. Anxiously, he crossed his arms over his waist and pulled his bag a little tighter to his side, unconsciously readying himself for...something. 

“I’m... fine.” He rasped out, voice thoroughly wrecked from being choked and manhandled. “Just... running late.” He fought the urge to reach up and adjust his collar, knowing she’d probably already seen the bandage anyway.
