My two little girls deserve better than this

I keep going back and forth about writing this. It feels heavy asking people I’ve never met for help. But I look at my daughters and I know my pride can wait — they can’t.

We’re living in a tent. That’s our home now. My oldest is 4 and my little one just turned 2. They don’t understand why we’re here. The older one tries so hard to be brave and it kills me every time. The little one just cries when it gets cold at night and I have nothing to cover her with.

Spring is here now but it doesn’t feel like a relief. The nights are still cold, and the bugs and worms have started showing up everywhere with the flowers blooming. I stay up trying to keep them off my girls while they sleep. That’s what my nights look like.

I’m their father. I’m supposed to protect them. I’m supposed to give them a childhood. Instead I’m watching them grow up in a tent surrounded by rubble and insects and I can’t even get them a proper meal most days.

I’m not asking for much. $5, $10 — anything. It goes straight to food, blankets, medicine, something to keep the bugs away. Every dollar is real to us here. It means another day where I can tell my daughters it’s going to be okay and actually believe it.
