Tonks our newest member of the Michigan Modified Dolls
We are proud to present our newest Doll, Tonks! Congrats June Wilson for successfully completing your probation and becoming our newest member of the Michigan Modified Dolls. As we are still building our chapter you also are a member of the parent chapter, The Modified Dolls. We look forward to working with you to build our chapter into and official chapter.
We asked Tonks to tell us a little about her self and this is what she told us...
'I moved to Michigan in 2005 from New York and took a huge risk in my life. I ended up marrying a wonderful man and now we have a wonderful son. I’m a research administrator for a major university and get to see ground breaking research happen first hand, which is super exciting! I found out about TMD after getting a copy of Skin and Ink magazine and saw an article on them at Weeki Wachee State Park dressed as mermaids. The photos drew me in, but the message they sent was the allure to join. Over the years I have been a part of different organizations that help specific causes, but the Dolls touch on all kinds of causes as well as sending the message that just because we have ink in our skin, doesn’t mean that we’re so different. As a professional person, I try to spread this message as much as possible to those that will listen. In my ‘spare’ time I am a makeup junkie (most of the ladies at my local Sephora know my name); attend craft beer festivals with my husband; travel as often as possible where ever I can; play Lego video games with my son and pamper our 3 dogs, 2 saltwater aquariums and 2 turtles. '
When asked a few questions (on her application) these were her answers..
What does "Modified" mean to you? I think we all self-modify whether we like to think we do or not. Clothes, makeup, tattoos or piercings all modify, but we also modify our personalities based on all kinds of things. Modification for me is to make myself more attractive to myself as well as to make myself happier. When I put on something pretty (clothes or makeup) I feel confident and empowered. The same goes for my tattoos. I am honored to wear them. Not only for my current self, but for my future self who can look back and remember why I got them in the first place. Modification for me is a way to remember and honor my past.
Why do you want to be a Modified Doll? As a professional woman, Mom and wife, it is difficult for me to find other woman like myself to converse with. I try to stick with woman tattoo artists so we have more in common to talk about, but it can be difficult to make friends afterwards outside of the shop since they are typically so busy. My colleagues are wonderful, but some don’t appreciate my modifications and one tries to make me feel bad about them (i.e.: says I only got them to draw attention to myself, but she knows better). My husband does not have any modifications and so there is a part of me that craves to hang out with someone who has them and appreciates them as much as I do. Getting the word out that professional moms/married woman can be modified and be clean upstanding representations of society means a lot to me. It shows the world that I am beyond someone who just has ink. I am a good person who has a loving family and an awesome career and who also happens to carry my artwork with me! J
Favorite Charity or Charities? Project Mercy (in Ethiopia) and St. Jude
We are confident that Tonks will make a wonderful addition to the Doll family, and will help us to achieve our goals of doing good works and dispelling the stereotype of being a modified woman in the world!
Are you Modified and Employed? Show us? Send us a pic of you showing your modifications at work......

Witchy Head Doll Dropping off the donations collected through our Spring Clean Event
Our first annual spring cleaning event was a success. We had a ton of great people and organizations help us out. This event was designed with two purposes in mind; 1. To give people an opportunity to clean out their closets and help local people in need at the same time, and 2. To get our name out there and maybe draw in some new members. We would really like to thank all our wonderful sponsors; VFW Post 2406, Spartan Motors, and Skidmore's Village Cycle Shop. We collected more than four huge boxes of donations from you generously allowing us to put our boxes in your establishments. We also want to thank the Homeless Angels and Eaton Siren Shelter for accepting our donations and getting them to the people in the most need. What a great outcome to a great event! Be on the lookout for our next event……we are just getting started :)
We’re Back!
We are back and getting organized again....we are few but soon we will be a official chapter. Give us some love and share us with your friends!!! Keep your eye out for weekly articles and monthly promotions :)

Helping families find strength in numbers through a network of local Chapters
It’s something seen every day – children healing because they’re surrounded by their families. And while RMHC may not be able to make the medicine taste better or erase the pain of a much-needed treatment, they can help lessen the burden for nearly nine million families each and every year. Since 1974, their network of local Chapters have been making children happier and healthier by keeping families together – giving them a place to rest and refresh. A place that feels like home. These programs, tailored to meet the urgent needs of each community, can now be found in more than 58 countries and regions across the globe.

The Best Banana Nut Bread Ever :)
Look out everyone the holiday's are right around the corner. Every year….around the holiday’s….everyone I know starts hinting at the bread……then they look at me like where is it? And So I embark on the massive task of making Banana Nut Bread for….everyone…..literally I make like 10 to 12 loaves! Uggg….But it is soooo good! It is my great, great grandmother’s recipe (I think maybe more greats)! We all love it!! ;)
Banana Nut Bread
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. soda
2 c. flour
3 or 4 crushed bananas
1/4 c. walnuts
Cream together the sugar and shortening, add egg. Mix soda, flour and spices together. Add this mixture to the first. Add crushed bananas and nuts. Bake about 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees until a toothpick comes out clean.
Another option is to leave out the nuts as some people don’t like them or have an allergy! :)
Letter from your editor:
As this is our first edition of our new blog The Mandible, I thought I would introduce us and tell you what this blog will be all about. We are the Michigan Modified Doll hopefuls. Modified Dolls are a non-profit organization who does charity work both locally and support a different charity each month. TMD's goal is to dispel the stereo type that because we are modified we are in some way bad people. Mi Mod Doll hopefuls are a group of women who are working together to create a MI chapter of this great organization. I am Witchy, team leader of Ingham and Eaton Co. MI and editor and chief of The Mandible our blog/webzine.
Now that you know who we are…...What is this Mandible? What's it all about???
The Mandible is our blog/webzine; this is where we will not only share our activities, but we will also talk about home living, give advise (so please send us your questions), talk about community happenings, share interviews of tattoo artists and people doing good works, introduce dolls and other chapters, share recipes and remedies, and enjoy an occasional letter from the editor…..all from the viewpoint of a modified woman in the day and time.
So please everyone…..send us your questions, pics of your modifications (only appropriate pics please), pics of you doing good works, info on your fav. Charity, recipes, remedies, and dyi projects...dont forget to include all info and pics.
