How many wifes liubei have? Why he choose liushan as his succesors?
Liu Bei was formally married at least three times.
His fist wife was Lady Mi, the sister of his follower and friend Mi Zhu. Liu Bei abandoned her to his enemies several times, and the two were separated for the last time in either 200 or 208. There is no record of what became of her, though Liu Bei’s careless treatment of his sister was likely a factor in Mi Fang’s eventual defection to Wu.
Liu Bei’s second wife was Lady Sun, the younger sister of Sun Quan. The two were married around 210 in order to secure the alliance between the two factions, but this did not last. In 210, Sun Quan proposed a joint attack on Yi province with Liu Bei, but Liu Bei refused and threatened to obstruct such a campaign should Sun Quan proceed on his own. His stated reason was that Liu Zhang was a good and kind man who did not deserve violence, and that he and Liu Bei shared a bloodline so attacking him would be unacceptable. However, Liu Bei actually just wanted Yi for himself. Before Sun Quan’s proposal, Liu Bei was already plotting with Fa Zheng, Meng Da, and Zhang Song to claim Yi. Liu Bei left Lady Sun behind in Jing when he went to Hi in 211, and when he attacked Liu Zhang in 212, it was clear that he had betrayed the confidence of the Sun family. Because of this, Lady Sun returned home, effectively annulling the marriage.
After claiming Yi in 214, Liu Bei married his third wife, the future Empress Mu (Lady Wu). She had previously been married to Liu Zhang’s now-deceased brother, and her family had garnered significant influence in the local region, so Liu Bei married her to secure some local support. Historical records have little to say about her, leaving much to speculation.
Liu Bei also had several concubines, most notably Lady Gan, who was Liu Shan’s mother. She was abandoned by Liu Bei on at least four occasions, but she always returned to him. Her death around 210 was likely one of the things that prompted Liu Bei’s marriage to Lady Sun. Liu Bei’s other concubines aren’t particularly noteworthy.
Liu Shan was selected as the heir simply because he was Liu Bei’s eldest natural son. He was only 16 years old at the time of Liu Bei’s death, but he was still the eldest. Liu Bei’s other sons were far too young to even be considered as viable replacements.
Prior to his death, Liu Bei did have one older son, Liu Feng. However, Liu Feng was adopted before Liu Shan’s birth. He proved to be a talented and good-hearted commander, winning glory in several pivotal battles. However, Liu Bei feared that Liu Feng would prove a rival to Liu Shan, despite Liu Feng professing no such ambitions. In order to avoid future conflict, Liu Bei executed Liu Feng under false pretenses, on Zhuge Liang’s advice.
Anything interesting about Mi Fang ?
I’ll just talk a bit about the Mi family, in order to get this all cleared up.

wife-of-ambition:
“Quite true. My beloved does indeed hold high regards for Liu Bei as well. I am happy that we can be friends, though, Lady Mi. I do hope we can work together to end this chaos that plagues this land and realize our own ambitions..”
“Hey, we’re friends now, yes? Please, use my full name.
“—Oh shoot, I got so caught up, I forgot I was supposed to meet with my brothers. May the heavens bless your day.”
wife-of-ambition:
“Well, Liu Bei isn’t particularly fond of Cao Cao. But I do hope we do not fight eachother in the future. After all, you and I are wives of our respective warlords. We shouldn’t be enemies, but friends. We women of chaos should stick together.”
“My lord does share different beliefs than Cao Cao, yes, but he does respect him. If you wouldn’t mind, then I would be honored to be your friend, Lady Bian.”

“Ah, pleased to make your acquaintance, Bianshi. I haven’t been my lord’s wife for long, but I sincerely hope his alliance with your lord is plentiful for both parties.”
So... You're the wife of Liu Bei? A pleasure to see you again. It's been since I saw you before Guandu with Lord Guan Yu.
“That is my role, yes – my name is Mi Mei. Forgive my poor memory, but I seem to have forgotten your name. I think I’ve seen you by Cao Cao’s side before…?”
Bring this child... To our Lord...
Hey man, just wanted to ask what's known about Lady Mi, MI Zhu and Mi Fang's sister and Liu Bei's wife?
Mi Zhu was from an extremely wealthy family of merchants. He was known for his generosity, though he was not a man of any great skills. He helped Liu Bei succeed Tao Qian and remained loyal to him until the end of his life. After Lu Bu destroyed Liu Bei’s army in 196, Mi Zhu used his fortune to help Liu Bei rebuild, and also arranged the marriage between Liu Bei and his sister. He was given honorary titles in Liu Bei’s court, though since he was not skilled in domestic or military afffairs, he never had any responsibilities.
Mi Fang was a bit more martially minded than Mi Zhu, and more talented. He was given important positions by Liu Bei and eventually became Grand Administrator of Nan commandery. However, he had to share his city (Jiangling) with Guan Yu (who was Grand Administrator of Xiangyang but couldn’t capture the city) and the two came to hate each other. Guan Yu bullied Mi Fang and eventually drove him to defect. After joining Wu, he helped defeat a rebellion along with He Qi and had some fame there.
Both Mi Zhu and Mi Fang were skilled at horsemanship and archery.
There isn’t much recorded about Lady Mi. She married Liu Bei in 196, and he abaondoned her at some point , as he had a habit of doing. This treatment migth have been another factor in Mi Fang’s eventual defection.

“E-eh? Brother, my lady? I’ve…met your brother?”
“Yes, my sweet, precious Fang. He doesn’t talk about his friends much, but when I managed to pry something out of him, it’s always about you.”
“Well, no…I don’t think so! Does it count that I like to have lotus petals in the hot baths? Hahah…though I guess it’s a good thing to be a natural beauty?”
“Ah, lotus petals...? The thought alone sounds serene, I might have to steal that idea. I’m so relieved to know my precious brother has a beautiful, kind friend.”
“O-oh! Well..I haven’t really looked into any skin regimens…I know I just bathe every day, sometimes opting for hot baths?”
“No specialized ointments? My, you are truly a natural beauty. Oh, but surely you must know that.”
“ahahah…I don’t think there’s a need to be envious! Surely my lady has wonderful physical qualities too! Your hair looks very lustrous and well put together!”
“Ahh, so humble. I thank you. ---Oh, and your skin! It looks so soft and fair! Pray tell what do you use?”
“Ah…uhm…thank you, my lady?”
“And your hair, it’s so auburn -- I’m envious!”
Lady Mi is… deceased.
