Tamanu Oil Razor Burn and Ingrown Hair Remedy
In my last couple of post we talked about basic tips for keeping your vagina clean that focused on healthy, everyday things you could do to improve your vaginal health whether you shaved or rock the natural look. This week we’re going to add a little bit of emphasis on the ladies whose to shave and are struggling with avoiding those pesky nicks, cuts, and ingrown hairs that leave a very unsettling feeling in the valley down low. Here are a few tips and a special remedy to help you get a smooth, clean shave every time, and some preventative care to relieve your skin of razor burn and ingrown hairs. Enjoy.
Razors are designed to shave fairly short hair and will quickly become dull and develop build up if applied to long hair. I suggest trimming your hair shorted than ¼" to get the smoothest shave possible. Just simply grab a clean pair of hair trimming scissors (you can find hair trimming scissors at your local beauty supply store), pull the hair up away from the body, and then cut.
Staying on the razor topic, make sure you’re using a new razor EVERY TIME YOU SHAVE. I can’t stress this enough. If you want to get the smoothest shave of your life please use a new razor. Dull razors are dangerous and don’t get the job done so avoid them at all cost.
You also want to soften the hair, pubic hair as we all know is much more coarser than the hair that grows out of our scalps so you want to make sure that you get it nice and soft to make it easier to work with. What I used to do was run a warm/hot bath, add a few scoops of coconut oil, and soak for about 5-10 minutes to allow the hair to soften up properly.
When Shaving DON’T make multiple, quick strokes. DO make Slow, gentle strokes. And always go with the grain than against it to avoid ingrown hairs.
Speaking of ingrown hairs here’s a fun little remedy to help heal those pesky dark spots that may have developed over time
4 tsp Tamanu oil (accelerate wound healing and stimulate the growth of healthy skin cells) 4 drop lavender essential oil (antiseptic and anti-fungal) 4 drops chamomile essential oil (anti inflammatory) 2 drops peppermint essential oil (pain relief, reduces risk for infection)
Remember it’s always best to use Organic, Unrefined Oils if you want to reap the full benefits, and Mountain Rose Herbs is the place to go.
The best way to make this mixture is using a Pyrex bowl, add all of the ingredients and whisk vigorously to make sure the oils are evenly spread and then add the contents into a 1 oz. or 2 oz. Dropper that you can find at your local Whole Foods or Sprouts (if you don’t live near either you can order one on Glass Bottle Outlet.
Happy Shaving Ladies! ✨
