3D Previsualization of Repair Shipyard
Creative Objective:
Our client needed to pre-visualize their project, the South Atlantic basin’s largest repair shipyard before construction started.
Creative Challenges:
We were tasked with designing a 5-minute animated video that covered all the key aspects of the repair shipyard for our client’s audience, while maintaining a strict budget and deadline, while also meeting our client’s high expectations on the appearance and accuracy of the project.
Creative Approach:
To stay within the clients budget we designed some scenes in 2D animation. In order to preserve a consistent look between both the 2D and 3D aspects, we rendered out elements in 3D to be animated in 2D software.
Technical 3D Animation:
Nothing physically existed yet, in the real world, of the visual aspects of the repair shipyard. We started with our clients overhead VISO CAD drawings to rough out the space using primitive 3D shapes. Then using written descriptions and technical documents, we came to understand each area’s function within the repair pipeline. Using a mix of different 3D software packages, we generated a photo-real appearance for this large scale pre-visualization.
THE END RESULTS:
Combining our experience in technical 3D animation and staying within our client’s budget, we were able to far exceed our client’s noble expectations. They wrote: “we are absolutely elated about the 3D animation you have created. This is exactly the artistry we were looking for. The addition of the earth is fantastic“ The ability to pre-visualize our clients projects before they exist in the real world, is a key reason to use technical 3D animation.
