‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.

You saw your 4 month friend and your fresh crush Hazel in the hallway of the dormitory.
"Hey." You called her as you were walking towards her.
She had a blank expression on her face and it seemed abnormal. She looked like she was mentally somewhere else.
"Haze, are you alright?" You came closer to her.
"Don't come close. I know what you did." She had a disgusted expression on her face and her voice came out hateful which you never once heard from her.
You realized she knew. You could have deny it or do or say anything else but you felt your tears filling your eyes as you watched her leave and disappear in the hallway.
You heard the sound of the your phone's alarm.
You relaxed once you realized it was a nightmare.
You once had a curious straight friend who was actually bisexual and she wanted to try making out.
You had a thing for her back then and you made out. It was nice.
You and she were in the same major and had common classes. She usually asked for your help. You always helped her but even you had limits for your crushes. She hugged you two times and didn't seemed disgusted. 'What happens after she learns that? ' you thought to yourself.
Her opinion was important cause you wanted more with her. You wanted to go out with her, share the same bed, spend quality time(more than you do) and laugh with her. You wanted to offer her your heart without knowing she will offer hers because as much as you know she was beautiful. Inside and out. You wanted her to know that. You weren't going to tell her that, tho.
You didn't have the guts. Maybe If you go nuts.

Hello followers who are still active on Tumblr! This is the account formerly known as finleighwrites, but no more! I'm doing a little rebranding.
A lot has happened since I last posted on this account! I created this account the summer before my sophomore year of high school, and now I'm going into my senior year of college. (Yes, I know. I also feel old. And also like I have no idea what I'm doing.)
But I'm not just back for fun. I'm here because for the past 7 months, I've been working on creating an independent web series called Unsex Me, about a closeted lesbian fanfic author who writes Korrasami Macbeth AU fanfic to cope with her crush on her best friend. Blaire, my lovely protagonist, is also a frequent Tumblr user. So, I figured, why not go back to my roots?

I want to write an alternative version of Romeo and Juliet where instead of being a little ponce and trying to work things out for himself, Romeo asks his smarter friends what to do about the whole thing and Benvolio and Mercutio come up with the world’s greatest plan:
Marriage of convenience between Juliet and Mercutio.
Think about it.
Juliet’s parents want her to marry into the Prince’s family. Mercutio is a good compromise between no marriage and Paris.
Mercutio probably won’t get his inheritance if he keeps being HELLA FUCKING GAY ALL OVER THE PLACE so a beard is only a benefit to him.
They would probably get along great rolling their eyes at how adorably stupid Romeo is.
Romeo and Benvolio could get a “bachelor pad” right next to Juliet and Mercutio’s house. Every night, Romeo and Mercutio high five as they hop the fence to go bang their one true love.
The second half of the play is just all of them trying to keep up the charade and being “THIS CLOSE” to getting caught all the time. But everything ends nicely because true love conquers all.
hi guys! yeah, i haven't been on here in a really long time. Hi. Happy belated Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans. If you’re family’s weird and judgmental like mine, well, you survived it.
but thats not the reason I'm here.
so as you know, NanoWrimo is this month. I wish all of you participating a belated good luck. but it’s also coming up on the 1-year anniversary of me finishing the first draft of the Hostage Game. And i was reminiscing, and i came across my outline for the sequel (I’ll call it HHA2 on here bc i’m between two titles and i won’t know which one fits better until i actually finish it). And the whole first 14 chapters are done and ready to go, and if we’re going off my length of THG, I only need about 2-3 more to finish it. so my predicament is: to write the sequel, or not write the sequel.
I can’t write it now, obviously. I have a lot of school stuff going on and i’m also working on Darkness (my screenplay that I'm writing for my creative writing class which i probably should be working on rn) so i wouldn't be able to write it until around february/march/april. But i could at least knock out the first half in that time and write the rest in june or during camp nano. And it’s something i’m really excited about writing - I miss my hostage game characters and the world so much, and i miss drafting in it so much more.
But, if you’ve been following me for a while, you know i’m no where close to being anywhere near done on the Hostage Game. And it just bothers me starting the second book when the first one isn’t complete. I don’t think I'm going to be making any major changes to it, at least not to the outcome of the book, but it needs a lot of work.
so i’m asking those people who have written sequels: when did you write your sequels? after you got published? immediately after you finished the first? i need your help. Thanks already.

they either just come to me, or they come on the fly bc i need a character name bc i pants everything but if they come to me outside of writing time they come in latin class, idk why but that class is really boring so i just

novels? but i also like novellas, Darkness will be my second, and while I’ve been in creative writing i’ve taken a liking to short story, especially character pieces ahh they’re so fun
4. What’s your biggest distraction?
needing a character name/backstory/to research or something i can’t continue on with writing without
5. Do you have a specific place to write?
my desk, on my laptop, and that’s the only place every, but i also like to write on car rides. (whenever i go on vacation or somewhere i also have to find one specific place to write and that whole time i have to write there nowhere else)
6. How did you come up for the idea for your main wip?
so in 6th grade i discovered spy books but i didn’t really like them? like there was always one aspect i didn’t like, so i created hazelhavers academy and max and james and alex, and then i gave up.
2 years later i had to write a story for a genius hour project, and I ended up creating Ash and Joseph and Phillip and Jasper and Violet for The Thievery game, and since the two stories were already so similar i decided to combine them. So when I finished the Thievery Game, I dove right in to the Hostage game and didn’t look back until i got super stuck last summer.
7. Tell us about your fave character you’ve created
Yall probably know that Ben from the Hostage Game is my favorite, but imma gush about Maryse instead. Maryse is probably the closest i’ve ever gone to a self-insert character, and i love how bad-ass and how she seems to not care about anyone or anything, but has such a big heart.
8. Pick another writeblr and summarize their story
i’m gonna skip this one bc i’ve been gone so long and i feel like whoever i choose imma describe it so badly so yeah
9. What’s your favorite thing about writing?
I love how you can go into a story knowing absolutely nothing and come back and have a whole world. I just love how you can create a whole world, and then share it with others and share lives.
10. What book(s) do you consider as instrumental in your draw to writing?
Uhhh all of them, there was never a specific book that drew me to writing, just books in general. But if we’re talking about screenwriting, that was inspired by two movies: Thor Ragnarok, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and also Stranger Things.

ok so since we’re all nerds on here I'm assuming most of yall know what wonderstruck is. It’s a book like 2 inches thick that tells 2 stories intertwined - one about a boy named ben who just became deaf whose story is told in words and a girl named rose whose story is told in pictures (did i mention this is by brian selznick? who did the new harry potter covers and is an amazing artist?) and I'm watching the movie for it rn and holy shit
like the deaf girl from the quiet place plays rose? I want to say her name’s like millicent? and she’s amazing like ahhh and her sections are like a silent movie and it’s great
and its by amazon studios? i didn't know that exists? and probably why more people aren’t obsessing over it? and so far it’s dead on with the book which is probably bc brian wrote the screenplay (wow how multitalented is this guy)
just when it looked like i was actually gonna be working on THG draft 3...
okay, i guess i can give myself a little credit. So as some of you know, I’m taking a creative writing class for the first time ever (bc my school thinks everyone should go into stem well newsflash not everyones good at that thanks) and we have to work on something called a magnum opus, or essentially, something we’re working on for the full semester. And i didn’t want to use a third draft as mine, i wanted a new project. I was thinking about using one of the THG novella ideas i had, but then inspiration struck.
another thing i’ve been meddling in in recent times is film - it’s what i want to major in in college now - but i haven’t ever like, written a screenplay or anything like that, so i decided now would be my chance. as for the idea... that didn’t come as easily, but it still came.
may i present to you - darkness! a story about a girl named Maryse, kicked out of her extremely wealthy home for having the power to - you guessed it - control darkness! she has relationship issues with this girl named lily, aaaaaand thats all i really can say? except it was inspired by gotham city and all of the vigilantes that live there.
the wip tag will be - surprise - #wip: darkness! until i find a better name for it (and yes the exclamation point is apart of the name)
