How does our boy Jax handle being, well, handled at the start of his 'on no im smol' problems? Whether by friends or uh... people he's not too keen on? What parts stand out to him the most?
Jax's methods to handle being handled in those early days ranged from verbal abuse, kicking, and at least one case of biting.
He couldn't verbalise that he was absolutely terrified of everything around him, even people he knew. The sheer scale of what had happened to him, and the sudden loss of autonomy really freaked him out. Add the overwhelming machine of the human body flexing, moving and pressing on him, and he spent most of those early days either on the edge of, or in the middle of a panic attack.
But of course he tried to pretend that wasn't what was happening. 'it's fine!' 'He's just frustrated' etc. Any excuse to try and not confront his situation, when everything IS confronting.
After an incident with Ceres (She yelled at him and scared him so bad he couldn't pretend or hide behind anger, suddenly everyone is away of how frightened he was and it was a needed confrontation tbh), Jax mellowed a little bit. He figured his situation was permanent at that point, so whenever someone went to pick him up or he was in someone's hands, he'd just go limp and let it happen.
His handling of being handled shifts after he discovers that he will bounce if dropped. He's sturdier than anyone thought, and after he's able to shift, he becomes a little more okay with things, because at least he can get his own back with a snowball or something later.
Overall, the handling he undergoes in those early weeks taught him alot. When he is suddenly able to get bigger, he recalls everything he hates about being handled, and tries not to inflict that on others if he can avoid it.
Things that stand out:
- Different people subconsciously hold him differently (Monroe cradles. Ceres restrains, Alan avoids holding him at all)
- All hands are doing so much at all moments. Even the stillest hand has microflexes and the bump of a pulse. And the flex and shift in skin his own body can cause when he moves freaks him out a little.
- If you go limp, people are less rough with you because suddenly then think you feel more fragile.
- The difference between protective, curious, frightened, and affectionate holds are incredibly noticeable to him. This was a surprise when he figured it out.
