I wish I knew Pokemon team building better to answer this question, so I've gotta just go on vibes, sorry in advance! I think he's less the type to go for a specific type based theme and more just "anything strong." No trick room or weather gimmicks, just anything that's able to straightforwardly wipe out his opponent with sheer overwhelming stats and moves. Of course they'd have good coverage for each other but definitely "sheer strength" over synergy.

And then one single mon on the silly end that he can't really figure out why he keeps around but he'd feel weird if he didn't have it (something that reminds him of his brother).

I love the idea of Garen being a big eater. He'd fuck UP some seafood boil. He'd be a farmer's market CELEBRITY. An all-you-can-eat HATES to see him coming. And not just in terms of quantity, but also in having an adventurous palate. He'd love his durians, offal meats, fermented foods. Very "waste not, want not" mentality. I'd like to think he'd be a half-decent cook... A true expert in the "dad" culinary arts: baking cookies, flippin' pancakes, brewing beer, fishing fish, pickling pickles... Because whoever you ship him with, you think Katarina is doing the cooking? You think Darius is doing the cooking? Girl.

I adore Rugged Garen because, well, Garen would 100% play D&D. He's fully the collegiate athlete/jock that still clocks into Friday night D&D every week and makes sure nobody at the table is bullied for it. (Is that still even a thing? Being bullied for playing D&D?) And yes, he would play a human fighter because he's a little basic like that... But every once in a while, he gets daring and plays a fighter paladin—imagine that.

He would also play MtG. I always thought Garen as a CHARACTER was white green (white because he's a disciplined, protective guy with a strong sense of justice, and green because he prioritizes community and growth while being skeptical of the "unnatural"), but I'm not sure if he'd PLAY white green, if you get my gist. He strikes me as a Gruul (red green) or Boros (red white) player. He'd play stuff like Wulfgar, Raggadraga, Chishiro, Vrondiss, Ragost, Mustard, Ardenn...

Though on second thought, maybe he WOULD play Selesnya. He loves his lions, after all. He IS the lion of League. Arahbo Cat tribal, perchance?
