In case you missed it, what was once the holy grail of natural hair products, Shea Moisture rolled out a not-so-new promo on Facebook and Twitter. The month old video featured two red headed women and a light skin 3A hair typed woman discussing their self-imposed “hair hate.”
Now, the issue is not that Shea Moisture has chosen to broaden their demographic, the issue is it’s blatant lack of representation. Where are the women of color Black women who’ve been scraping up $12 to $16 to buy curl enhancing smoothies when they weren’t BOGO? Or the women with type four hair who also use the products? The lack of visibility within the natural hair community is what set most of us off.
With rumors that the brand has secretly changed the formulas to its most popular products to open up to a more “diverse” audience and after yesterday’s fiasco, to put it bluntly— it’s quiet for Shea Moisture.
If you’re not in the mood or simply don’t have the time to break out the shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera gel to whip up your own products, I’ve got you covered.
Here are 20 black-owned hair lines that deserve your hard earned coin. There’s even a couple of brands for the fellas because let’s be real, you were dipping in our curl enhancing smoothie too.

Plus there’s more products listed on this site.
Come thru sun. Come thru!
how you gon run a “stop hair hate” campaign but not feature the type of hair that gets the most hate?

Inspiring black people to rock their natural hair is vital.
Spring mood board.
White people are more likely to get hired because their names sounds white.
White kids are punished less for the same behavior than black kids
White convicts are more likely to get a job than black people without records.
A white person with no college degree is just as like to get hired as a black person with a college degree
All white juries (it’s starts on page 11) are more likely to convict black criminals than white ones.
Black people are more likely to be stopped and frisked than white people even though they have a higher drug usage than us.
White people (majority of doctors) think that black people feel less pain
Black people get longer sentences than white people
White people use the majority of drugs but black people go to jail longer. This talks more about why our jails and prison are full of black and poor people
White people push for harsher laws when they think it will affect black people
Black people are more likely to get death penalty if their victim is white vs white people if their victims is Black. (Really it applies to all races. Any race that isn’t Black is less likely to get the death penalty if their victim is Black.)
Since this is much longer than the others if you scroll down to figure 5 and read the information about it that’s where this is detailed but the whole thing is a good read.
Reblogging this to here because I can never find examples of white privilege and systematic oppression when I go searching for it in our blog or my personal one.
Nobody drinks that nasty shit anyway.
The Best of Twitter dragging Pepsi™ and Kendall Jenner’s ignorant ass for that horrendous new ad they just released.
How y'all gonna defend her ass? “She is just doing her job” “She has no idea” Just like when you turn a blind eye on that racist trash Gigi, smh.
Suddenly i want a can of Coke.
I’m glad there’s only one black woman in this add. They can keep this dumb shit
My hair is sooo dry
I realized that all of my DC are protein based. Now im on the hunt for more moisturizing products. Also, ive been taking a million vitamins and they seem to be helping with my problem areas in the front, slowly but surely.
