As a kid, I was really upset that Bill Watterson wouldn't license Calvin & Hobbes so I could have plushies or so there would be a Saturday morning cartoon. Now, I realize his resistance is the reason we don't have a Calvin & Hobbes DreamWorks movie starring Chris Pratt.
i feel like your group of close knit characters would work better less as a found family and more as a ride or die indie rock band a la lemonade mouth. “whos the mom friend” shut up. whos the bassist.

he’s too precious..
Ah the rare teacup spill nail. They don’t live very long because it’s difficult to hold their shape. They sure are beautiful though.

An experiment in language change
Nifty little language game here.
I can read back to 1500 with basically no difficulty
at 1400 I have to read slowly and carefully, but I can understand all of it save a couple words
at 1300 I can still comprehend most of it if I read slowly, but a much larger percentage of the words are unfamiliar to me, even with context
1200 and earlier are almost totally unintelligible
This was so fun! 1200-1600 really IS a test of how many of the antiquated letters you either already know or can guess, tbf. And also vocabulary.
I was fairly good until abruptly not being at 1200 but I can still make it through 1200, if I accept just shrugging at some words and using context. At 1100, though. Whew! Nooope. Slowly and then all at once INDEED. His explanation is great! Very interesting. Still glad I never took a class that required translating Beowulf. That is nerd hobby time stuff, not ‘I have four hours of other homework’.
It was MUCH easier if I read aloud - and having heard and had to perform 14-1600s and occasional Middle English snippets! I also found knowing German (obviously) and fascinatingly, some Welsh, helped me. There are definitely some places where things like ‘hydder’ — which I can only, including in context, imagine is at least the same root as ‘hither’ if not pronounced that way — use spellings that would be cognates to how those letters would sound in Welsh. Same case with a few of the (but not all) vowels.
