When The Wind Met The River

“Vitya!”

The name, muffled as it was called above the three inches of ice capturing the river, rung in Yuuri’s ears. It was what called him back to reality, out of the stunned silence he found himself in, his soft eyes staring into the blue irises that were so widely studying him above the ice. The human looking down on him had a blurred expression, although the spirit knew it was concern. A hand came down, about to break the physical wall between them, only to be taken and ushered away by the voice, a lecture about getting too close to freezing waters following. Yuuri strained to hear the name again, to see the face, but the sight of an elderly human sent him scurrying back to hide. The young face… That silver hair that seemed to flow past the young human’s shoulders in waves, glistening from the ice and snow, that gorgeous blue that made even a river spirit feel like he was drowning- it was impossible to forget.

Victor learns that Yuri used to volunteer at a small dog rescue while in Detroit, and that he used to donate his extra plushies to the rescue so the dogs had more toys. Knowing that it makes Yuri happy they start taking the time after competitions to visit local rescues and provide toys for the dogs. They soon learn that there is an unintended and wonderful side-effect to their visits: Victor’s posts of a happy and laughing Yuri amid a bunch of adoptable dogs helps the pups find forever homes.

That’s when it becomes a thing.
