When his family have had enough and are getting too suspicious he should get really into fibre arts. Really elaborate crochet patterns that they are convinced are some kind of code system and he’s systematically distributing it across certain parts of Gotham to certain criminals, who all happen to have worked for riddler at some point in the past but they all went to the same elementary school and have middle names starting with S.

None of it means anything, he’s just filling time.

He should secretly go to law school then bring a case against Bruce Wayne for the cover up of the murder of one Jason Todd, proposing that the famed philanthropist was in fact covering for the joker.

He should build a fleet of blimps and market them as Gotham’s new ride share system, uber but with dirigibles, partly to keep batman on his toes when he’s hiding on rooftops and partly to help modernise Gotham’s public transport situation.

This is one criminally underrated Batman villain.

SERIOUSLY THOUGH SHE WAS MY FAVORITE BATMAN VILLAIN

Her physical condition didn’t allow her to age

No one took her seriously as an actress

And even when she was trying to get into a happy romantic relationship (albeit with another villain) he still couldn’t take her seriously as a consenting, sexually active and romantically interested adult

That’s a lot of blows to someone’s psyche 

and Babydoll is both a sympathetic villain and a formidable one

And man, do I wish we could see this Batman again: the Batman that consoles his villains, because the majority (if not all) of them are mentally ill people. And Batman knows this and wants them healthy again, not punished and GOD definitely not dead.

The Batman that cares about the inmates is my favorite. He doesn’t put up with their shit, but he does try to reach out here and there and he’s as human as he can be to them.

When Harley was re-institutionalized, he got her that dress she wanted.

In the comics based on B:tAS, there was a time during Christmas that there was snow and it was Mr. Freeze’s fault, and he was making it snow because Christmas was his anniversary with Nora and she LOVED it when it snowed on Christmas, so Batman let him finish mourning before calmly taking him back to Arkham.

He never, ever gives up on Harvey possibly recovering.

Sure, Batman is going to throw punches and do what it takes to take these guys down when they’re hurting or threatening people. And he’s not going be a complete bleeding heart; he has to protect the innocent. He’s going to take them down and take them back to Arkham, but it doesn’t mean he’s incapable of being a bit human to the ones who deserve it.

It’s ridiculous to think that this isn’t what studios want from our heroes. This is dark and sad without being grim-dark. We need our heroes to be compassionate. There’s enough darkness in the world already. Give us our heroes who care and truly fight for justice.

It’s like they forgot that batman is, at his core, a Noir character.  

And what makes Noir a good style, is that the protagonist never gives up and allows themself to wallow in the darkness around them. The world is dark, and bleak, and cold hearted, yes. 

But the protagonist fights against that. 

Fights for their humanity. 

Claws their way out of that muck, and even if the ending is as dour and bleak as the world around them, the Noir Hero shoulders that burden and carries on. 

A battered lantern with a flickering light inside them. Refusing to let it burn out. 

That’s what Batman should be.

Reading every 80s Jaybin comic has made me so much more annoying about timing misconceptions that I see in fics a lot, mostly having to do with Dick. When Jason was Robin...

Dick did not live in Bludhaven. Dick lived in New York with the Titans

Dick had not been a cop yet. That didn't happen until around NML (he mentions applying to the academy in Road to No Man’s Land)

Dick was still Discowing. In fact, he was still like two or three costumes away from his classic black & blue finger stripe suit

Dick hadn't had his mullet or ponytail eras yet

Dick was dating Kory

Barbara wasn't shot until shortly before ADitF, meaning she's could've shown up as Batgirl while Jason was Robin. She didn't with the exception of pre-Crisis Jason's origin story and a retcon from Gotham Knights, but she could have.

Bruce had several girlfriends/love interests during Jason’s Robin run, especially pre-Crisis. Primarily Selina, but Bruce also had something with Vicki Vale, Julia Pennyworth, Natalia Knight/Nocturna, and very briefly at the very end of pre-Crisis, Talia. Jason was notably jealous of Selina for taking so much of Bruce's attention, and he didn’t like her all that much because of that

There's no real point to this, I just. I guess. if you don't want to read the comics, you can always just check the DC wiki for when a certain event or issue came out. That's pretty well-recorded most of the time 👍

Important addition that doesn't apply to Jaybin but does come up sometimes with Red Hood fics: Damian was born when Dick was Robin. Dick was like 13-14 at the time of Damian's birth, which means that Damian was like 8 or 9 when Jason was with the League. Jason would've never met a baby Damian, unless you're specifically writing within the Young Justice show continuity, which is Different.
