On Friday, I will be collaborating not with a person but with an item- an enormous flag made to honor the victims of the Orlando shooting. The flag bears the names of the 50 victims of the shooting and is flooded with words penned by the many people who were present at the vigil at City Hall...
I made another Tumblr for all the photos I’ve taken that are not in series. Then I wrote flarf poems for them composed entirely of Google search results. Check them out yonder: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/queerseawitch
Anti-Catcalling Performance + Rally in San Francisco
Join me this Saturday at ATA Gallery in San Francisco from 11am - 8pm for an endurance performance about street harassment / catcalling. For 8 hours (there will be a 1 hour break featuring other performers) I’ll be in an increasingly threatening environment exposing over 200 real life catcalls from submissions I’ve received: https://missberlinette.typeform.com/to/Jgs35r
Following the performance there will be a STREET RALLY AGAINST CATCALLING! Bring your poems, words, songs, experiences! Let’s get loud!

Half
I still yearn for
the half of me
that is gone-
but am eager to meet
the me
I am becoming.
It's an odd experience enduring sympathy... Because we really do endure it. There is a part of us that really demands that our suffering is unique and that no one else can possibly understand it because they do not intimately understand the connection we have lost in the same way we do. In some ways, we're correct in thinking this way. But it is also true that we are never alone. We are connected even when we do not want to be. When I was fourteen, I experienced my first death. A friend of mine committed suicide and even though people told me that he was at peace I just felt that it was wrong, like a void had opened up in the world, a wrong that could never be righted. And as cheesy as it sounds that feeling only ended when I sat down to write a poem not for, but with my friend. I sat down and tried to channel his consciousness. And it worked. I looked up and saw his words on the page. I had found that place inside of me that was him. We are immortal in a way, in the sense that our consciousness exists well after our bodies fail us. We exist in others. Our reach is long and lingering. Our love is forever.
Said the Thorn
One of these days,
I'm going to stab myself
straight through the heart
and you
will not feel a thing!
Said the thorn to the lion's paw.
But thorns do not have hearts,
the lion objected.
Then the thorn said,
Well, this one does!
And stabbed itself
straight through
as it said it would.
And sure enough!
The lion felt nothing.
And neither did
the thorn.
The Independent Punk Women Artist / Magical Mer-Unicorn Holiday Gift Buying Guide
If you are going to spend your hard earned dollars on something this holiday season, may I beg you to avoid the mall and support some of these rad independent women artists who make magical things that honestly you probably definitely need:
1. Luma Jaguar as Mermaid Atlantis:
Offering waterproof silicone sea shells , high-waisted retro fish scale shorts, and functional mermaid tails, the Mermaid Atlantis--a *full-time professional mermaid* living in San Francisco--has done everything from swimming with whale sharks to hosting the first (ever?) mermaid fashion show in a dive tank. So of course she's got everything to satisfy your everyday function meets fashion modern mermaid needs!
2. Ave Rose of Ave Rose Art:
Do you like dead things? Precious stones? Watch parts? How about dead things with precious stones AND watch parts? Ave Rose is a steam punk princess and micro-magical mastermind whose got gadgets and gizmos a plenty (not to mention whosits and whatsits galore!). From clockwork taxidermy that comes to life for your bewilderment to macabre, eerie jewelry embellishing beautifully preserved specimens, every piece is made by Ave personally in her magical castle in Culver City with attention to detail as well as the ecological impact of her thoughtfully sourced materials.
3. Tiffany Nicole Rust of Wayward Shiftys:
Tiffany Nicole Rust is a pirate-unicorn-mermaid who washed up on the shores of Oakland, CA one day with a sewing machine, a pile of lace, and a dream: to make debonaire, spooky attire for the mer-punk rock royalty of the Bay Area. She recently unveiled a set of feathered neck frocks and layered skirts to bring out your inner fancy fish.
4. Alanna Hibbard of Poutfits:
Before there was health goth, there was poutfits: chic and functional, beautifully-cut lingerie that is as smart and classy as it is ridiculously hot. The woman behind this sexy independent line of after hours (or all hours if you are lucky) apparel, Alanna Hibbard, resides in the lush green kinky-goth-nerd oasis of Asheville, NC. Personally, I would not mind at all if someone nabbed me an underboob-liberating sensor top, a neon et noir playsuit, or a pair of high wasted panties with cartoon eyes on them. See what I did there?
5. Chrystal Sparkles of Sparkle Pow:
Bronze velociraptor earrings, silver bands with natural crystal formations and miniature glass globes hosting living lichens, Chrystal Sparkles does not make jewelry, she makes tiny worlds supported by years of skill, endless imagination, and meticulously hand-tooled materials. She resides in the magical mists of Petaluma with her family, including the newest member, her toddler apprentice River.
6. Michelle Rose of Michelle Rose Clothing:
Michelle Rose is a magical witch woman who works as a musician, an artist, a designer, oh and in her spare time she runs this awesome shop in Echo Park called Space Dust. If you're in need of a witchy tomato dress, an iridescent abalone shell triangle-cut necklace, or a pair of earrings that references the fact that Jupiter is in Virgo, you might want to check out her sophisticated groove of wearable psychedelia.
Please support my efforts to raise funds for survivors of human trafficking in California! Each year, over 25,000 women and children are trafficked for the purpose of sex in the United States. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego are 3 of the top 13 ports of entry. According to the Polaris Project, there are only 529 beds exclusively dedicated to survivors of sex trafficking. It is absolutely essential that these survivors have a secure place to find solace and recovery from their captors. Together with Daisuke Okamoto of Okaina Image, we've created a project to raise funds for California shelters for women and children survivors of sex trafficking! Please have a look at: http://www.mirabellejones.com/womanforsale
100% of the proceeds (which is 50% of what you pay to RedBubble!) goes directly to these shelters and people who have been through ALOT.
On view at The Hive Gallery and studios from 09.06.14 - 10.08.14!
