by the way.............SORRY i havent posted my 3d art in THREE YEARS? i got sucked into a project i couldnt finish. i chiseled away at it for no kidding maybe two and a half years until i decided to just kill it? i kept getting SO CLOSE and then kept looking at it and seeing all its flaws...i kept being SO SURE i could do better. to my credit at least i wasnt totally wrong, everytime i scrapped the head and remade it it came out better and in those 2 and a half years i still picked up some skills. finishing stuff is its own skill though...and then i got suck on ANOTHER thing and it drove me craaaaazy. it was way too complicated a project for my skills at like concepting and hard surface and it kinda pummeled me into the ground for the better part of 2025.

this is the 2nd big project that i bailed on and a LOT of the work went into several crappy unusable pieces but i keep going back to the head...theres a lot of weird proportional stuff going on but i think i did a good job of making the skin details like the wrinkles and edges flow in a nice way without totally overpowering the entire character. though he is a like a supersolider type character he literally is supposed to have a mask on the whole time so i was just fucking around for no reason HAHA. point of this post though is to say that i DID learn from this failure in ways i didnt before :pointingup: i failed to stick to a set style and sort of jumped around a billion references and that pulled me in too many directions. having a proper concept like FINALIZED before even working on it wouldve been a huge deal and saved me some heartarche. i also need to learn how to organize my time when working on larger projects so all the parts have the same detail parity. annnnnnnd i need to make sure to keep the Character Art Basics in my head while im working on this stuff. like making sure im paying attention to the overall shapes of the character...
the body in particular is pretty bad and you can tell i had to frankenstein it through several revisions. the arms just dont look right even though i spent all this time trying to get it anatomically correct while not adding bony landmakrs so i can actually tell where the muscles go...PLUS the shapes look all weird. i made everything so pillowy and didnt add any pleasing curves. and hes SUPERNATUALLY HUGE so the arms look to small even if i was double checking against an ecorche.

actually now that i think about it isnt Trapper just a proto Graves? just the ideas he presented took to a more interesting and polished conclusion i guess. im probably REALLY late to this observation but still cool! i can imagine slork getting transfigured in the same way but probably more extreme. theres some mixed into billy, kinda? even if there isnt i guess Billy eats slorks lunch role wise. anything interesting Raven was doing got put into Backstabber which doesnt even backstab anymore?? wow. wrecker had a meme ultimate and thats sort of it sorry buddy
i havent had a real match as all of them (or even most) but the new(er) deadlock charactersâŚare pretty cool!!! there seems to be a design mindset change or at least a desired polish amount post vyper which i think really works. the Mirage to Vyper gang are kind of a strange bunch. like SinclairâŚ.whatâŚis his kit? he has so many weird ideas tacked on. he sort of feels like the missing link between Mirage who has a lot of strange moba-isms stapled to his kit and the post Vyper characters who seem to really fit into what deadlock is doing.
