The privilege of solitude
Raby Castle - Luciano Giubbilei

An anthology on the artistic practice of the inaccessible exhibition brings together a large amount of text and visual material from more than five decades. The relatively small format, broad spine and grey hardcover with a large silver X create an object-like, almost hermetic impression, offering an immediate visual signpost to the theme of closing off. The words ‘Anti’ and ‘Museum’ running in opposite directions on the spine are also both visually attractive and symbolic. Inside, a series of full-colour images are followed by the many texts with a uniform typography. Illustrations, where they occur, are placed at the end of a text in uniform black and white, and each following text is separated by a blank white page crossed by a diagonal black line. The examination of this hitherto largely neglected topic is welcome, and the sober volume is not only highly accessible but also surprisingly light and carefully laid out, making it ideal for reading.

Costume Inspiration.
The Mixtec Ball Game is a traditional sport played by the Mixtec Culture, a living prehispanic mesoamerican civilization keeping their traditions in the region of Oaxaca, Mexico.
The game rules are very similar to Tennis. The game is played between two teams hitting a rubber ball with heavy textured gloves towards the opposite side of the court. The team who sends the ball outside of the court gives 15 points to the opponent team. The winning team is the one ending with more points.
The glove fabrication is a thorough costume-made artisan process for each player

Towards a three tiered experiment
“Edible art, in the hand of Eduardo Navarro, is not a thing we “can do,” but a true individual apotheosis that questions the relationships we have historically established with our ideas and sentiments...
...By eating one of culture’s most extreme forms of authority—art—we also move away from any revanche or adversarial gesture, since to come to the exhibition and eat it can only be a newly invented form of pleasure.”

A practical survey on the natural ways of touching and smelling in the public space will serve as basis for a series of interactive experiments about the senses and social isolation proper of the urban lifestyle.
The survey will be condensed in the creation of a tool kit along with a spatial installation inciting the audience to relate differently with the space, as well as to think of innovative strategies for reconciliation with the immediate context.
The aim is to raise awareness about the forgotten senses of smell and touch due to technology and socio-political conditions in the XXIst Century.
The project will immerse the audience into the paradox of proxemics in order to evoke new perspectives about the sense of community in the city.
Starting Thesis Research...
Last September I officially started my thesis dissemination project.
Bringing along exciting ideas from the AAIS 2016-2017 year of work, as well as personal experiences, I have been combining and dissecting my thoughts to reach an exciting starting point.
With the hope that writing leads me to pin down the potentials, you will encounter bits of my ongoing process above
