my hamlet designs !! (+ ramblings below)

HAMLET

before i go into all these designs there was an attempt to make them period accurate (though they definitely r not)

hamlet was the one i was most confident on. i wanted him all in black & for him to have an obnoxious hat. im also firm believer in short hamlet. other than that, i wanted him to look tired & pale to show his grief. he’s got those eye bags. also in act 5 he would change his whole outfit and dye his hair blonde (which i will probably draw another time) to show how his focus has changed (similar to how in icke’s version his clothes change to white in act 5 !)

HORATIO

horatio was the one i was least confident on. i changed his design like 3 times and im still unsatisfied with it but i didn’t want to do anymore. if his design changes in the future, it’s cause i hate it. but i knew i wanted him to wear green and for him to be tall. also for him to have glasses (cause he’s a nerd). i tried to make him rectangular-ish to show his loyalty and stability but i don’t think it came across.

LAERTES

laertes’ design i also struggled on. i didn’t know if i wanted him to wear armour to show his action and cause he’s a good swordsman or for him to wear something more french. in the end, i went with the armour. i tried going more sharp shapes to show his aggression but his design is pretty simple ngl. i also debated on whether he would also be ginger like ophelia but in the end i decided not to — i think he’d look more like polonius.

OPHELIA

ophelia’s design is my fav. i wanted to give that subtle floral motif in her design so i did it as patterning in her clothing. both her & laertes have freckles just cause i thought they were cute (also to make them look related). if you squint your eyes, there is also a heart motif going on with her shape (trust). she’s ginger just because i imagined her to be, there’s no other reason why. at a later date i might draw her when she goes mad because i love the idea that she wears white.

there is something horrifically grim to it, but illustrations for gaza and palestinians tend to catch more mass attention that actual photos of people. this made me feel incredibly helpless for a long while, seeing both how people would rather look at a neat drawing of red black green and white than look a human in the eyes, and how online platforms would rather push a viral drawing while suppressing those begging for help at the same time.

a way to cope with this feeling has been taking advantage of it to directly guide people to helping palestinians.

if art gets better traction, then there’s an incredible amount of good that can be done by creating art that immediately links to fundraisers. creating art of the many images of those who are asking for help.

within hours of posting my drawing, there has been jumps in the thousands for bashar from gaza’s fundraiser. it’s a small effort in the grand scheme of things. it’s not a fix it. but it’s something good. please take care of each other and do what you can. i think this could help a lot of people if a lot of people did it.

everyone celebrating india's mission to the moon's south pole i love you and im with you but this is NOT india's first accomplishment in space!! im seeing a lot of people saying that but its not true. some other things we've done:

confirm the presence of water and ice on the moon

was the first asian nation to reach mars orbit, and the first nation IN THE WORLD to reach it in it's maiden attempt

saved thousands of lives from cyclone phailin in 2013 over the four days, resulting in 45 deaths when without them, would have been in the thousands at minimum

launched the first successful flight using the indigenous cryogenic engine

successfully neutralized a satellite in space with an anti-satellite (mission shakti, anyone?)

launched 104 satellites with one (1) rocket

THE VIKAS ENGINE??? HELLO?? NAMBI NARAYANAN??? even if you didnt know him before, surely youve seen the movie rocketry?

not to mention everything we've done in coordination with other nations, and achievements from Indian scientists and astronauts that were then taken by other nations, usually during war. plus, we've always been much more cost efficient than our space-faring peer nations

all to say!! we've always been there, and we've always been strong. our mission now only proves that, and we should scream it loud and proud for any westerner who ignores us again
