justice comes in small packages

Slayers always played fast and loose with character size (see: Godzilla Zangulus) but my favorites are the shots where Amelia is approximately three apples tall

in the novels she does eventually get just above Lina's height, which isn't exactly an achievement given how tiny Lina is supposed to be. in R/evo Amelia is around Lina's height half the time and noticeably shorter the other half, so like all things Slayers it comes down to vibes

the moral of the story is however short amelia is, you need to make her shorter. shorter. no, shorter than that. she may be stacked like a brick but it's a very small brick

miscellaneous zelame archives: slayers wonderful edition

archiving here since I couldn't find collected screenshots anywhere else. Slayers Wonderful, the series's final videogame, has more zelame than NEXT. not only do we get Zel turbo-yearning (my favorite), we also have exchanges like this:

...plus the FMVs we all knew and loved long before they were ever translated, like the rescue and the resulting dinner date with goblin meat:

not to mention he's the one carrying her back to the inn in the scene referenced at the top of this post

who do we have to thank? there are just two story credits: the more junior role, scenario arranger Mizuho Yoshioka; and the overall story supervisor, some guy named Hajime Kanzaka. seriously though Kanzaka may have been pitched various scenes and dialogue that he oversaw, edited, and fine-tuned to make sure they were in line with his vision, or he may have done much of the work himself like he did with Aqualord, which was also intended for a videogame

kanzaka has said he's bad at romance and he clearly never intended it in the novels. but given how much zelame he supervised and approved throughout other continuities, one wonders if he always made someone else do it or whether he wrote some and had guidelines of his own. for all we know he was like "first off, she likes that man in women's clothing, so write that down"

Lina confronts Amelia's attacker, which makes her reflect on the past and an uncertain future. The gang says their farewells and heads off to their next adventure.

...and that's a wrap! Happily ever after, or is it? There are a few lines in here that hint at a tragedy to come, but the future’s not fixed, after all. Maybe there won’t be a war, and maybe these friends will have each other’s backs in the years to come. And so ends our tale about best friends, old secrets, and...disco music.

Every character has a different opinion about the moral of the story. Which is your favorite? I think Pokota's is my favorite and the most important: women are freaks.
