An aroace comic for pride month

Hello! For pride month I wanted to post a little comic about some internalized acearophobia I’ve been dealing with, and maybe other people on the aroace spec or aros/ aces can relate too. Or even people outside of those spectrums who might be dealing with mixed feelings about relationships. Aroace refers to people under the aromantic and asexual label who feel little to no attraction to any gender. This isn’t me trying to shame anyone on the aroace spec/ outside of it who do want relationships, I would never want to do that. I just wanted to highlight some internal struggles that aroace people face in an amatonormative( the assumption that everyone wants a romantic and sexual relationship and it’s more important than other relationships) society. Especially since I have been deemed in the past as less queer because I’m aroace, and my heart breaks for any aroace/ aros and aces out there who were told their struggles didn’t matter and that they weren’t apart of the LGBTQ+ community.

Anyway, I wanted to leave my comic off on a positive note. I have hope that I’ll come to accept my identity in spite of my doubts and I wish the same thing for anyone that’s going through this right now. To all the aroace specs and people on the ace and aro spectrum, you guys all matter 🧡💛🤍🩵💙. And thank you to everyone else in the LGBTQ+ community and allies for your support, you guys are awesome. Happy pride month everyone!!

There's a very, very good runner in my circles. She's younger than me, faster than me, just took up running whereas I've been at it for years, trains more miles and harder workouts than me, is prettier than me, etc.

She's also very, very thin.

Today I saw a neda tattoo on her wrist. So she's also better at restricting than me. Great. I have fed my shadow with my hate and it has found me.

other things this coworker (who is a cis guy) has done/said:

—got confused about why I’d never been a boy scout because he forgot i was trans

—told me he was gonna get top surgery scar tattoos to match me after i get mine

—laughs at all my trans jokes, even if they’re supremely unfunny

—calls me big dog (and him little dog) even though he is about as tall as two of me

— “I can’t believe she would say that transphobic thing to you. In June? Pride month?”

Once I said "My gender is whatever's funniest at the time" and my coworker stops dead in his tracks, turns slowly and says "So are your pronouns honk/honk?" killing me instantly

I was talking to a friend I knew before I transitioned about my new relationship (my first one ever!) and I said "Yeah, I think I only indentified as aro/ace most of my life because I didn't have lesbian as an option" and he looked me dead in the eye and said "Oh? Why not? ...Ohhh"

Then he said "You know, I completely forgot you weren't always this way. Femininity really suits you" and let me tell you I started tearing up

Of course, not ten minutes later I mentioned that I had to relearn how to sing and he said "oh no, what happened?" so he might just be a little slow

Update on that friend: a bunch of people sent me "he's a little confused, but he's got the spirit" gifs in response to that story. I can tell you now with certainty that she definitely has the spirit, and she's not confused anymore

these get reposted a whole lot from here to reddit to twitter to tiktok and on and on, and i don't personally care whether or not i'm credited. i made these for everyone to use, enjoy, and find meaning in them. i appreciate folks who do credit me, but if able, please at least link to the threadless shop in the previous post - folks can get an official shirt where 90% of earnings go to trans led orgs focused on mental health (which is an important matter in general, but very personal to me) and not from a scam bot site selling AI-churned maga garbage where you probably won't get one anyway. i also suggest downloading the files from my ko-fi - they are free/PWYW and you can use them to make your own shirt, patch, embroidery project, whatever. tips are always nice, cuz i do like a pizza now and then, but never required for download.

final thought - breaking the pride tradition and more than likely won't make a new piece. the top one from TDOV is all i'm making this year. i have my focus on other projects currently and i don't want to force a poster design. these came from a specific head space and my current head space is Very Tired lmao so i wanna work on other things. 👍

happy pride! remember that being a transgender is everything but fiction. there are so many real historical figures from every century about whose transgenderism we aren't even aware of

on this picture i drew Alexandr Andreevich Alexandrov - cavalry officer of the russian imperial army that participated in napoleonic wars. people persistently keep on misgendering mispronounsing deadnaming and calling him a crossdresser although alexandrov clearly stated that he didn't want to be called by his deadname and being treated like anything but a man. that's an interesting historical figure and i wanted to draw attention to his person. i can't tell everything about him in only one post so i recomend you to read about alexandrov by yourself

Anyone else feel like cardio is the only exercise that burns calories? Sure I can go to the gym and lift weights, but it doesn't count. Only running, hiking(ish- it's complicated) or spin class calories count.
