I was embraced during March 2025, I can't remember the day exactly. I keep getting called a "Tremere", which people tend to associate with megalomaniacs and a very specific set of issues. Since I accidentally got my sire executed, the other kindred seemed a bit hesitant to involve me in anything for a while, but have since started trying to rope me into things as some kind of fall man. I've managed to negotiate my way out fairly well, and my tendency to stay in public view has made it easy enough to avoid retaliation without breaking the vampire law.

The Steampunk Cyberpunk Goth Matrix people actually came into where I work about a week ago. One felt more "living" than anyone I've ever met, one had some extreme body modifications including extended floating ribs, one was high, and the other three were speaking only in Iambic pentameter with matching jewelery and masks, each in different materials.

The high one tipped me with weed, but so much of it that they clearly meant for it to be generous. I just sort of... gave it to the dishwasher since I can't really metabolize it anymore.

I still can't tell if they're the most important people in the city or if they're just in some recent local countercultural movement I haven't heard of.

I work at a burger place that I've noticed is somewhat close to a casino called "Embers of Eden" and thought that there's no way it's not run by supernaturals. I do wonder what everyone thinks is the kind of supernatural being that might be behind those doors, though.

I saw like six people walking around dressed like a blend of The Matrix, generic post-apocalyptic style, and Victorian era high fashion. I'm not sure if they were vampires or something, but that was definitely too unique to not mention.

I've noticed time seems to feel more like long stretches of low detail survival broken up by the odd complication. Can anyone tell me if this is because I'm an ageless undead, or because I'm still sort of me?

Also, unrelated, would the study of how we work be biology, virology, super evil magic, or some bizarre fusion with a weird name? (My money would be on something like "Unnatural Philosophy" if I had any to spare.)

Since vampires exist, I should probably be a bit more open-minded about the supernatural. I figured I might as well make a list for more public reference, even with my flawed knowledge of it. I'm including everything I've heard anything about, even if I have doubts. If you want to know more, turn to the Nosferatu. I hear that their invisibility and natural experience with hiding works wonders for gathering intelligence.

Vampires: We're real. We also vary greatly in danger.

Ghosts: Also real. Going by how many stories I hear about them compared to the others, they're not even that rare.

Werewolves: Probably real. Nothing like you'd think if they are. Way weirder, way deadlier.

Wizards: Inconclusive. They probably used to exist, but the trail goes almost completely cold after the rise of natural philosophy. Alternative medicine forums and new age circles may be linked to them if they are real.

Faeries: Unlikely. I've heard a malkavian mention them, but not much more than that.

Zombies: Plausible. I've heard about them, but they seem to have a hard time actually getting the numbers they'd need to get out of control.

Magical girls???: Unlikely, but also not the least believable thing here for a seemingly mundane world. Also malkavian sourced, but less blatantly contradictory than the faeries.

Mummies: Inconclusive. They'd be pretty much impossible to discover without killing a random person and standing guard over their body for a year from what little I've heard.

Demons: Probably? I've heard a bit, but the term seems to be used very loosely for any kind of misanthropic spirit.

Spirits: Likely. Ghosts and demons both seem to be out there, so I wouldn't rule out other immaterial stuff.

Hunters: Obviously. They don't feel like they should fit given that they're usually just regular people, but apparantly they can pull off some seemingly supernatural tricks if you get especially unlucky.

Seers: Wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Aliens: See above.

Having unlived for over a year now, the real worst part of being "of the blood" is probably that our condition seems to have been tailor-made to create as many abusive dynamics as possible. The Camarilla is a feudal system that keeps itself in power by having the strongest on its side and on the top, the Blood Bond and its variants are all addictive as hell while forcing total subservience, feeding is also addictive for the victim from what I've observed.

Also, having read up on stuff like these "bloodlines" that my own clan (Tremere) has helped make, I definitely understand what everyone but the most power-hungry of us seems to have against me. Pretty much every exploit the Pyramid is mentioned to be involved in seems so blatantly evil that it sounds like some kind of Conan the Barbarian sorcery.

The only part of the masquerade I have a hard time getting behind is that I'll never get to have that big dramatic build up from stories where there's a hallway lined with portraits of myself dressed in finery, even the youngest having aged decades and gathering dust, all while I break a mirror the next room over just to scare the shit out of nervous guests with the sound.

Then I'd gradually start using innuendo to hint at my nature until they realize the dark truth with horrified expressions and terror in their eyes: I was born a man, but became something darker. Long after I was let out into the world I felt the very humanity drain from my soul as I became... a philosophy hobbyist. Vampirism came later and scares them less.

So I've found out through some light study that the Masquerade is actually a bunch of terrible laws with the single reasonable one as the face to prevent uprisings, and is not just the part about staying secret. I now have significantly bigger problems with it than just my Dracula fantasies.

Looking through my doubly late sire's scholarly resources is pretty interesting. So far, it's mostly just incomplete studies on the nature of Vitae, which I think is vampire blood going by how it's described.

A lot of it is a bit hard to follow, and others cite sources I can't find. But it's a solid personal library I'm glad I've... "inherited?" Nobody stopped me from raiding his study, so I'm assuming that means it's mine now in vampire law.

I meant that I was sort of released really early, and I'm actually just now going into my second year of unlife after having been left to my own a couple months ago. I don't recall the exact day, though it was in late November last year that I was embraced.

I honestly expected to experience time as broad strokes of business as usual interspersed with moments of greater substance once I became ageless, but it's all still just hours and minutes and stuff. Suddenly, all the complaints I've heard about our condition dulling the soul from other kindred at the vampire meeting gymnasium make a lot more sense.
