Emilia jumped on Clarissas bed, grinning at her as she held out a present. “Happy Birthday!!”

Emilia tapped her quill against the desk trying and failing at focusing. She was worried about the boys. Being back as school meant not getting to see them. Not getting to check in on Aodh or hang out with Landon. She sighed, tossing the quill and grabbing her bag. She needed out of here. It wasn’t long before she’d managed to sneak off campus and to a place she could appareate, showing up moments later at Landons door and knocking with a little nervous bounce.

“I guess finding a sister, who neither me nor Len knew about, classes as unsuccessful.” Lissa sighed, checking her phone. “She never sent us anything for Christmas, not even a Merry Xmas.” 

“Well she wasn’t the most....pleasant human we’ve encountered.” Milia sighed, checking her phone as well. “Speaking of not hearing from Landon hasn’t text me about Aodh in days and I’m getting worried.”

“Ew, your mom is here?” Kendall pulled a face. “Why? I didn’t know they allowed parents to chaperone.”

“She’s a teacher. It’s required.” Emilia explained nodding toward Keyara at probably the worst moment. She was trying to sneak a drink from a flask but not so sneakily. “Great. Remind me why I came to this thing?”

“Well come on then,” Finn held out her arm. “Aodh’s waiting.”

Emilia nodded, shutting up and taking her arm. She hated things like this honestly.

“You know, I reckon we should just go on another road trip before school starts.”

“Because our last one was so successful?” Milia laughed. “It’s been such a crazy break already Lissy.”

“Do I love okay?” Finn replied, straight-faced.

“Considering how well I know you? No idea.” It was meant more like a joke, something to try and ease the tension. But sometimes emilia was terrible at that.

“Lissa’s dad had an affair? And she has a half sister now?” Landon couldn’t even fathom finding out he had siblings half way through his life. “Wow, i’m sure that put a damper on things.” But then Emilia’s other sentence registered and he turned to stare at her. “Wait, what? Birthday? Whose birthday?”

“It..made it an adventure.” She laughed before shrugging with a grin. “My birthday, duh. I am now a legal adult in the wizarding world. Still stuck in school but I can freely use magic now.” She said happy with the fact.

Landon laughed slightly at her reaction, it was kind of how he felt. “Yeah, I like him like that. I wasn’t entirely sure at first. I liked being around him, but I’ve never liked a man before, so im just kind of feeling my way through things right now.”

“I mean, is it different from like a woman?” Emilia asked, pulling her focus back to her potion making actions. “Does it feel different?”

Finn pursed her lips, it wasn’t that she didn’t like Emilia, it was that she didn’t trust her, at least not yet. She knew Aodh trusted her though, so she let out a reluctant sigh. “Okay, fine, just uh, don’t push him too much, okay? He doesn’t like talking about this type of stuff.”

“No one does.” She rolled her eyes as she followed. “You uh, doing okay?” Emilia tried awkwardly.

“It’s called a dance, so why aren’t you dancing?”

“Because my mother is here and I don’t feel like dealing with her.” Milia commented with a roll of her eyes.

“It’s probably better for her healing if I don’t. She’s not a huge fan of me.” Emilia shrugged with a smirk. “Besides I like your sass, even bruised, more.” She told him as she came in and moved to sit by his head. She looked over his cast and bruises. “You doing okay?” She asked, dropping her bag and pulling her legs up under her. 

“Yeah, I guess.” Aodh shrugged. He wished he wouldn’t have texted her. He missed the quiet, he missed having his bed to himself. “I had to have surgery to make my leg less screwed up. It still hurts, though. These muggle doctors don’t know how to heal.”

"No, I doubt they do." She sighed, looking at his leg before picking her bag back up. "I brought you something. For boredom." She explained as she pulled out and held out an adult coloring book with a set of markers. "It was the only none magical thing other than a book I thought you might like."

Aodh had texted Milia. He was bored, and after a while, lonely. And he figured Milia would be the person to worry the least since they weren’t as close, without being…Darcy. “Hey.” Aodh half smiled when she showed up in his room. But he was a mess, and he felt the tugs of regret almost immediately. “Have you been to see Finn? I bet she’d love a visitor.”

“Well, you clearly don’t know the business very well, then.” Darcy scoffed, although mostly unbothered by her words. He had always appreciated potions, but he didn’t realize until he’d taken this apprenticeship just how much work went into the art. 

“Because it shouldn’t be a business, it’s a science.” She corrected with a roll of her eyes. “It’s become so much about profit and not about the skill of potion or growth in creating new potions for new needs.”

“I think they’re both still at the house,” Finn said, “I came to grab some more of the good alcohol.” She raised the bottle of tequila that was in her hand. “And another one just for Landon.” She raised the wine in her other hand. “Not sure if Aodh will want to talk, but I’m not his keeper, so whatever. Why do you need them anyway?”

“Mind if I come?” She asked, watching the bottles. “They are my friend, I told them I would come over.” Emilia explained, her own attitude not easing.

“He’s trying to perfect an old recipe, yeah. He found some tome or something that was his great great great great…” Darcy trailed off, rolling his eyes with a laugh. “Grandfather’s. It seems like a standard potion to me so far, but he’s the expert. Supposedly.”

“Unless he’s Nickolas Flamely I don’t belive anyone is an expert anymore.”  Emilia voice her opinion of potioners any more.

Landon heard the tale end of her sentence and wondered what her mother had to do with anything, but knowing that was a touchy subject, he decided not to comment on it. “It’s been ages. The last I heard you were going on that trip. How was it? And Lissa, is she doing ok?”

“It was fun, minus finding out Lissa’s dad had an affair at somepoint and she’s got a half sister who is like drop dread stunning.” She told him, rambling away the story. He was probably the only person she trusted to talk to about it. It was Lissa’s life not hers to share. But she trusted talking to Landon about anything. “So we stalked her down and that whole thing went terribly wrong. Oh! We celebrated my birthday while we were there too. If you haven’t been to Miami I suggest going for birthdays.”
