I have a request for steve S5 vol 2 and dustins sister reader.
So when Dustin and Steve are in the lab in the upside down and Dustin bugs Steve again about having feelings for Nancy, Steve does not just deny them but in his rage he admits that he is in love with Dustins sister and she overhears it. So when they are all getting ready for the final fight in episode 7 she pulls steve aside and kisses him before confessing her feelings. Saying she had to get it out before their final battle.
Hi, anon 😊 I love this request so much! I actually don't think I've ever written a Henderson!reader x Steve fic before, which feels like a crime! I absolutely love this pairing.
I hope you enjoy, and, as always, please show love and support! ❤️✨
Warnings: fluff, Steve and Dustin fighting (S5 accurate)
Steve Harrington x Henderson!reader
“Dustin, I sincerely hope you’re right about this place,” you said as you entered the lab. “It’s insanely creepy in here.”
“Will you just shut up and trust me?” Dustin spat.
“Dustin, man she’s got a point,” Steve said firmly. “We’re just following you in here on some random idea of yours with almost no explanation. And direct your sucky personality at me, will you? Your sister hasn’t done anything.”
You, Dustin, Steve, and Nancy had gone to the Hawkins Lab in the Upside Down in hopes of finding some answers about it. Dustin was leading the way, despite being increasingly irritable. You looked over at Nancy, who gave a shrug and sighed. The entire time, you two had been dealing with Dustin and Steve’s constant bickering.
“Whatever, let’s just make a plan,” Dustin said, not even looking at Steve. “Sorry,” he said half-sincerely to you.
“Well, how about Nancy and I go up and you and Steve go down?” you suggested.
“Do you mind if we switch up the groups?” Steve said. “I need some distance.”
“What kind of distance?” Dustin interrupted. “More distance from me or less distance from Nancy?”
“More distance from you,” Steve snapped. “I’m tired of your attitude.”
“Same with yours,” Dustin said.
“Well, look at that, we’re finally agreeing on something!” Steve yelled.
“Calm down, calm down!” Nancy yelled. “Let’s just stick with our original groups and get to work,” she said impatiently. “Y/N and I are going up, you two go down.”
“Will you be able to manage, loverboy?” Dustin said, glaring at Steve, who glared right back.
As you and Nancy walked up the stairs, you could see Dustin and Steve shove each other a bit, bickering quietly. You sighed and looked over at Nancy.
“Don’t worry about them, Y/N, they always figure it out,” she reassured.
“They’ve never fought like this,” you said quietly.
“They’re best friends, they’ll sort it out eventually,” Nancy said. “This’ll be good for them, and even better for us ‘cause we don’t have to hear them complaining,” she chuckled, making you laugh as well.
“We can only hope, Nance,” you said, shaking your head.
“Nancy, are you sure about this?” you asked. You and Nancy had found the shield, and she was ready to shoot it.
“Positive,” she said confidently, but quickly saw your face. “You want to check with him, don’t you?”
“Dustin’s the smartest kid I know, and something just doesn’t feel right,” you said. “I’m sorry, Nance, but I think we need to triple check.”
“That’s fine! I’ll monitor the situation, and you keep me posted on our walkies.”
You made your way down the stairs, unfortunately led by the sound of Dustin and Steve bickering. You sighed, ready to break it up, but you paused when you heard them clearly.
“You just had to be with Nancy, didn’t you?” Dustin yelled. “That’s all you ever think about! You never think about anyone else besides yourself! Have you ever stopped to think about what she wants? How Johnathan feels seeing you go after her like some pathetic puppy?”
“Will you shut up, Henderson?’ Steve yelled. “I swear, you’re so dumb! Everyone’s always saying ‘Oh, Dustin’s so smart, Dustin’s a genius, Dustin’s the best!’ but you know what, buddy? You’ve been oblivious to what’s been in front of your stupid face the whole time!”
“And what’s that?” Dustin yelled back, getting close to Steve’s face.
“That it’s never been about Nancy!”
“It never has because you know why, Henderson?”
“Because I’m in love with your sister, Einstein!”
You tried to mask your gasp as your heart leapt in your chest. You breathed out a soft sigh, your feelings muddling together, trying to navigate your anger with the boys and Steve’s unexpected confession. You crept up the stairs then walked back down, banging a bit on the steps as you made your way down to make your presence obvious. As you entered the room, Dustin and Steve were apart, but their chests were still heaving from their argument.
“Hey, um, Nancy and I found something,” you said awkwardly.
“Great, what is it?” Steve said, breathing shallowly.
“Um, we don’t really know,” you continued. “We wanted you to take a look, Dustin.”
“Is it a dome in the sky?” Dustin asked, making your eyes widen.
“Yes!” you exclaimed. “Do you know what it is?”
“Unfortunately, I do,” Dustin said, lifting a journal. “Please tell me you didn’t do anything to it,” he said desperately.
“No, Nancy was going to shoot it, but I wanted to check with you first,” you explained.
“Oh, thank God!” Dustin said in relief.
“Yeah, at least one Henderson has a brain,” Steve half-mumbled. “Show us, Y/N.”
As you led the boys upstairs, your mind was going in circles trying to make sense of what you had just heard. Steve had never shown you obvious signs that he liked you, or loved you for that matter. To be honest, you had always thought the same way Dustin did--that Nancy would always be Steve’s first and only love, maybe even his soulmate, if those existed. Sure, you and Steve spent time together and always enjoyed each other’s company, but he never gave any sign of it being more than platonic. But then again, had he? You wracked your brain, trying to figure out how you felt about the situation, about Steve.
Suddenly, memories flooded in as you reminisced about how Steve was when you were both in elementary school. You two would take turns pushing each other on the swings, then you taught him how to pump so you could swing together. You would gather wildflowers out on the playground and put a few in his hair. One day, he asked you to be his girlfriend forever, and you accepted.
In middle school, when everyone was getting a date to the dance, you felt hopeless until Steve stopped by your house with your favorite candy and asked if you’d go with him. That night, you both had your first slow dance and first kiss. It was the most magical moment of your life, and after you went home, you dreamt that it would change everything, but it never did. You were still friends, but it was always just that--friends.
In high school, it felt like you had lost Steve forever. Suddenly, Nancy Wheeler was the object of his affection, and all those late-night talks over pizza and soda when no one cared what the other looked like were gone. Now, Steve couldn’t come over because he had a date. Even after he and Nancy broke up, he didn’t exactly come back to you. He chose Dustin--not that you minded, Dustin needed a friend, but you had always suppressed jealousy. Whenever Steve came over to the house, you’d answer the door and be overjoyed to see him, but it was always to pick up Dustin, not you.
“Y/N? You okay?” Steve asked, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“What? Yeah, sorry,” you said quickly, trying to act casual. Steve looked at you closely, examining your expression.
“I’m fine, really,” you insisted.
“You know, I don’t believe you,” Steve said, then leaned in close. “I know you better than that,” he whispered, then winked at you.
“You sure do,” you said to yourself. Steve frowned in confusion and looked at you. He hadn’t looked at you like that in a while, and you could have sworn he blushed a bit, but you talked yourself out of it.
“Alright, everyone get ready. This is it,” Hopper said.
Everyone was preparing for the final battle, gearing up, making final plans, everything. You were prepping some things with Robin, but your mind was elsewhere, reeling from what you heard in the lab.
“You’re distracted,” Robin said quietly with a smile.
“Sorry,” you breathed. You looked up at Steve and sighed. You shook your head and tried to focus back on your work. Robin had followed your gaze and looked at Steve. She chuckled softly then looked back at you.
“Y/N,” she said knowingly. “You should go for it.”
“What are you talking about?” you chuckled, trying to play dumb.
“You. Steve. Staring at each other. All the time,” Robin said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“I don’t stare at him!” you defended. “And he certainly doesn’t stare at me.”
“Oh, okay, sure, Y/N,” Robin laughed. “That man can hardly take his eyes off of you. And you do stare at him. A lot,” she said, eyebrows raised. “It’s actually a miracle you two never look at each other at the same time.”
“Yes, you do, Y/N/N. You’re just scared. And that’s okay, for the record,” she said, taking your hand, “but if there was any time to take a risk, now’s sort of the best time to take one.” She squinted a bit as she smiled, and you nodded slowly. You took a deep breath, and Robin patted your hand encouragingly.
You walked over to Steve, who was talking to Dustin. They seemed happy again, and you smiled softly. You tried not to ruin the moment, but they both noticed you.
“Hey, what’s up?” Dustin asked.
“I, um, I actually need to talk to Steve,” you said awkwardly.
“Oh, okay,” Dustin said as he shrugged. As he walked away, Steve looked at you nervously and shoved his hands in his pockets.
“Listen, Y/N, I wanted to apologize to you,” he started. “I’ve been a real jerk to your brother, and it’s just because I’ve been jealous,” he admitted.
“Don’t worry about it,” you said, touching his arm. “You’ve always been a true friend to him, and I appreciate that. Besides, I know a thing or two about jealousy,” you said quietly.
“Aw, come on, Y/N/N, you’ll always be my number one Henderson,” Steve smiled, grabbing your hand and holding it.
“It’s not Dustin I’m jealous of,” you half-whispered. Steve tipped his head to the side and looked at you in confusion.
“It’s… complicated-” you started.
“I’m listening,” Steve said softly.
“It’s ridiculous, I shouldn’t-”
“Y/N, please,” Steve said, holding both of your hands now, pulling you closer. “I want to know what’s on your mind.”
Steve looked deeply into your eyes, and you felt your heart beat quicker. Between his secret confession and the current look in his eyes, you felt overwhelmed with emotion. Suddenly, you had your Steve back. You opened your mouth to say something, but your impulses took over, and you broke your hands away from his to hold his face, and you reached up and kissed him, your hands feeling his warm cheeks. He kissed you back, his hand going up to hold one of your cheeks. You felt a tear run down your cheek, but you didn’t know if it was yours or his. As you broke away, Steve’s brow was furrowed, but he had an undeniable look of love on his face.
“Y/N,” he said tenderly. “I-wow,” he breathed as he smiled wide.
“I heard you talking to Dustin when we were in the lab,” you admitted, and Steve’s eyebrows raised in shock. “And I feel the same, Steve. I was so stupid, I was hung up on you and Nancy. But I love you, Steve. I have for a long time. And if we make it out of this alive, I’m totally taking you on a date,” you giggled, and Steve laughed as well.
“Wow,” he laughed, shaking his head. “I can’t believe it. I love you too, Y/N/N, a lot actually,” he smiled. “Since you used to put wildflowers in my hair. I meant it when I asked you to be my girlfriend forever, you know.”
“Well, what’s taken you so long to ask me again, then?” you smirked.
“I guess Henderson’s right,” Steve shrugged as he chuckled. “I can be pretty stupid sometimes.”
“I think you’re pretty smart, for what it’s worth,” you smiled, kissing him again. “I don’t think my brother could’ve come up with that plan, but I think your best plan was back on that playground” you whispered, giggling.
“Agreed,” he said, kissing you again.
