GUYS, A MOMENT OF SILENCE, PLEASE.

The Taliban just attacked a school in Peshawar, Pakistan and killed 104 people, including 84 children. The school is currently under hostage. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers!

Update: The death toll has risen to 126 children, all between the ages of 9-16. More than a hundred wounded. The operation is still underway, PLEASE PRAY IT DOESN’T RISE ANY FURTHER AND ALL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ARE EVACUATED SAFELY.

No one can see your likes. The artist might just assume you thought it wasn’t good enough to be put onto your blog. It won’t hurt your fandom aesthetic or whatever. Your anime waifu is just a successful persons OC. If you like it, reblog it too. Think of all the things you wish were represented in your fandoms. That character you wish you could see, that plot you wish had been written, those homosexual canon lead characters you all want to have, they might have already been created by someone who can’t get people to look at their art, because no one will reblog it and help them be seen. Drawing and sharing stuff online is not a points system. Notes are not currency, they don’t mean anything unless you ascribe meaning to them. Relying on notes (or any meaningless number system) will just cripple your own self-worth. 

There is a LOT of original art on tumblr. Of course, fanart is easily recognizable but people will reblog/like/enjoy something that is eye-catching/interesting/engaging regardless of fandom. Shoehorning in an excuse like “well I only draw OCs so I’ll never get recognized” is self-sabotage, and will not motivate you to improve or move past this mindset. Do not assume people are looking past your work because they only feature original content. Focus on improving and expanding.

Also: guilt-tripping is not the way to attract more people to your art. Of course it hurts when your stuff doesn’t garner as much attention, but telling people “it won’t hurt your aesthetic if you reblog” is immature & desperate. Attract people to your art based on its own merit, not because of an emotional ploy.
