ā Salma Deera, from āLetters From Medeaā
Not to offer advice nobody asked for but fixing ur sleep schedule is life changing
Things that actually work if u try at them:
Drinking water
No longer making self deprecating jokes
Making sure to take time out of the day to relax and take a breather
Lighting candles
Counting ur breaths in and out if ur having a panic attack
Getting up and trying to do one thing even if u canāt do everything maybe brushing ur teeth but not having the energy to shower
Taking a shower if you can, putting clean clothes on if you canāt, even just a clean set of pjs. Washing your face.
A couple weeks ago I was in a major depressive slump and was feeling really detached from reality. I was trying so hard to fight it but nothing I tried worked until I realized I hadnāt listened to any happy music in almost a week.
I didnāt feel like listening to anything at all but I put on my favorite playlist anyway. Take On Me started and I finger stimmed to the keyboard riff and hummed along and by the end of the song I was smiling. A few more songs and I was fully singing along and feeling more present than I had in days.
Even if it seems small and trivial, like putting on your favorite socks or looking up pictures of kittens, it might be something you need. Of course the music didnāt solve any of the problems I was upset about, but it did help me feel like I was a person again.
This isnāt one of those āmust be good to be neurotypicalā posts btw, these are small and accessible steps that can really help.
Thrawn: We have fun, donāt we, Ziinda?
Ziinda: Iāve never been more stressed out in my entire life.
samarko with the springhawk: my beloved, my sweetpea... *caresses random wall* it is time for your routine check up with the engineers on Naporar.
Thrawn with the Springhawk: *drags the ship through mud, several space battles, an onboard party with a few cadets with too much csillan vodka, then mud again all while allowing to draw Che'ri on every wall* Yo engineer, the ships not running well! Patch it up but make it quick, no need to make it pretty.
Che'ri: i'm glad i'm short. tall people must have so much trouble sleeping. how does the blanket cover all of them?
Thrawn: Che'ri, it is four in the morning.
Che'ri: I can't sleep. Can you not sleep either?
Che'ri:
Che'ri: is it because of the blanket?
At a certain point you know what you are signing up for
ar'alani: Where are the sky-walkers?
eli: Theyāre playing hide and seek.
ar'alani: Where?
eli: That's not how it works, Admiral.
i reread treason yesterday....
Thrawn: i have an excellent observational skills, i can determine a person's character and emotions from a simple glance.
Faro: Eli has been in love with you for years.
Thrawn:
Thrawn: What?
pls enjoy a collection of shitty memes i made while rereading thrawn
sabine: the floor is lava!
kanan: *helps hera get onto the counter*
eli: *kicks thrawn off the sofa*
sabine: as you can see, there are two different types of relationships
I found a copy of my mom's favorite book from childhood! It's called Striped Ice Cream and I'm gonna wrap it in plastic and then some foil and bury it in a gallon of Neapolitan.
And I'll say "look, mom, I got you that striped ice cream you're always talking about!" and convince her to serve it up for dessert.
I'm gonna wrap a layer of waxed paper around it too, so that the marker doesn't rub off and it's easier to fish out. I'm not sure how I'm gonna excavate the ice cream, exactly. I made a template. I'm hoping to like... cut around it and then peel back a layer about an inch deep that I can just put back on top.
Mom thinks I'm at the park with the dog but I'm out in the garage burying a children's book from the 60s in a gallon of ice cream. This is one of the weirdest ways I've ever wrapped a present.
Well, shit.
Modern problems require modern solutions.
Now to work on smoothing the top a bit. It's not going to be perfect but it'll still be a good surprise.
"What have you done to this ice cream??"
AND THEN MY DAD TOLD HER IT WAS A BOOK BECAUSE HE WAS TOO EXCITED
You know who else is excited about this ice cream based enrichment puzzle? MY MOM.
Happy Mother's Day!
