How are you? Are you okay?
An amazing free resource about misophonia instructed by Dr Jennifer Jo Brout.

:) a flower I picked up from the ground on yesterday’s walk.
A house near mine has a big rose bush that goes over the fence. During cold months the roses fall off and I like to pick up the ones that are still intact.
Here’s a picture of my cat to brighten everyone’s day!
I’ve officially decided it, I’m genderfluid. Today we’re truly thriving.
Atm I’m vibing with he/him! Thank u!

Not to do with misophonia, but I got a tooth filling for the first time today and the dentists were very good at keeping me calm! Especially considering I decided to go without anaesthetic.
I DO NOT CONTROL THE MISOPHONIC REACTION
because misophonia memes are needed today
I’m incredibly lucky to have access to headphones 24/7 as well as family + extended family that aren’t bothered by them and don’t mind that I don’t sit at meals. But I remember a time before we knew what was wrong where my parents thought I was exaggerating or even lying about how awful I felt.
I know this is tumblr, but on the off-chance that a parent finds this, don’t push your kid’s needs aside. Misophonia is not a joke and never should be taken lightly. Much the same applies to any comorbid disorders.
You dont have to answer this but iv been wondering if you can have worse days with misophonia? Like somedays sounds make me very angry or annoyed but on other days they dont and im ok. Have a nice break from tumblr btw
Hmm, I don't tend to have worse 'days', but some people trigger me more than others. For example, most of the time my friends can eat around me and there aren't any issues, but none of my family or my extended family can. My brother didn't used to trigger me, and now he does. I can totally imagine how some sounds would feel worse on some days than they are on others.
Update: still can’t post on this account because people still can’t tag their posts properly. I’ll be back in a month or so. :)
i have a soft spot in my heart for people who post rain ambience rooms on yt
My favourite one is this specific train ambience video. It’s gotten to a point where I call it “my train”.
I physically cannot scroll the misophonia tag because people don’t TW their trigger sounds.
TAG THEM. PUT A WARNING.
It’s not that hard, and it means that everyone else isn’t at risk of developing your trigger sound.
"those headphones are gonna make you go deaf"
people with misophonia/sensory issues:
Question, is it okay if I (a person without misophonia) follow this blog because I want to learn about misophonia, but not add on to any posts because this isn't really my thing to talk about due to me not having misophonia and not really knowing about it?
Hi, sorry, I didn't see this until now. Of course you can follow this blog, the more the merrier! I don't post often because people can't tag their posts properly but I'll be around for a while regardless. Thank you!
information about misophonia
some behaviours that i’ve personally experienced and seen before:
- trying to cover ears with hair
- abrupt head movements, like theyre trying to shake the sound out of their head
- shifting in their seat
- heavy breathing
- flushed face
- visibly tense
- trying to covertly cover their ears with their hands without looking rude or strange
- nervously tapping any surface they can find
- mimicking a sound someone is making (like chewing louder than you)
- shooting glares or frightened glances in sound’s direction (even if its not a person making the noise)
- wide eyes
- nervous leg jiggling
- clenching fists
A lot of misophoniacs:
- wish they were deaf (i was one of them for a long time)
- carry headphones everywhere
- aren’t violent
- are very good at hiding their distress
- meditate
- take anxiety medication
Notes:
- misophonia triggers the fight or flight response
- most reactions to trigger sounds are involuntary
- most (if not all) of us have an involuntary muscle twitch somewhere on our body when we hear our trigger noises. it can be literally anywhere
- cannot be helped by desensitization (has been recorded to make it worse)
- even thinking about noises can cause them to develop into triggers
- we’re not supposed to read up about other triggers because it can cause us to develop them
- a lot of us also have misokinesia (which is a visual version of misophonia)
- reading about misokinesia can cause you to develop misokinesia (i learned this the hard way. whoops)
- it is not caused by trauma
- it’s a neurological disorder (meaning it’s the wiring in our brain)
- it rears its ugly head around the time puberty starts
- is a lifetime disorder that gets worse with age
- IS SELF-DIAGNOSABLE
- has caused suicides
- and literally almost no one knows about it
edit: I created a support blog for those who suffer with Misophonia and want to talk about it. [Here’s the link.]
in conclusion: misophonia is a bitch ad i still want to go deaf 🙃
i also developed misokinesia by reading about misokinesia, i mean i think I’ve had it for a longer time but realizing it’s existence got me more triggers :“)
The same happened to me. I’m sorry to hear it.
