I just had the thought that as a teacher, I am very used to adapting everyday objects into learning experiences/activities.

Case in point, I bought a baking tray specifically to take into school and use with my kids to match magnetic letters to a sheet of paper with letters on it. But I could also use a baking tray for holding sand/flour/shaving foam/rice to let kids practice letter formation.

And I thought it could be a fun game (though according to the look I got from my mum when I told her, I may be the only one to think so), to give a teacher a random object and ask how they would use it in their classroom.

Y'know what sucks.

Being a hypocrite.

And knowing you're a hypocrite.

Every school I have worked at have had the same or a very similar policy where if someone from the school has been physically sick (not just feeling nauseous or poorly, but if they have actually been sick), then they cannot come to school until 48hours after the last bout of sickness, regardless of whether the cause is a stomach bug or just because they ate too much.

Because, from my understanding, when you're sick you pull up bacteria from your stomach that you could spread around so naturally, schools are already melting pots of bacteria, let's not add to it.

Anyway, this policy applies to both children and adults and I accept that. I understand that. I do not think any less of anyone who takes that time. If anything, I say yes, please keep your germs and bacteria to yourself, thank you.

Yet now that I have just been sick for no reason, that I can discern at least, I find that I do not like this policy. Because, I am sure that I will feel fine come morning but because of that 5 minute date I had with the toilet, I cannot go to school.

In my class' virtual learning environment, one of my kids just had "oh my gosh" get autocorrected to "In my fish" 🐟 😂😂

I kind of feel like if someone were to look at my mental state, then they would see me standing on the edge of a very dark, very deep pit. And I wasn’t too worried about that because there was a rope nearby that I could use to swing across to safety and even if I missed that, then there was a ledge just below me that I could land on without dying. But now that rope is moving farther away and the ledge is looking more and more crumbly - like any weight at all will make it collapse into nothing.

I had a really funny, sweet moment when I was saying goodbye to the second half of my class today.

For context, I always wear my hair tied up in a quick bun to keep it out of my face during the day. But when I take photos of myself, I tend to have my hair down

One of the kids asked about my staff pass card and asked how long ago the photo was taken (as they haven't really seen my hair down apart from bun adjustments). I said it was taken recently but they didn't believe me so I took my hair down and they all seemed really shocked.

Some of the kids were then saying that I looked pretty with my hair down and that I should wear it down more often - to which I told them that I tie my hair up for a reason (and I demonstrated how easy it is for my hair to fall into my face - I literally cannot see through it 😂).

One of the boys then asked if I could wear my hair in a ponytail to school tomorrow, to which I then said, I could do it now and tied my hair into a ponytail. Another boy then said that he was really confused by all the things that girls could do with their hair and didn't know how we did it.

It was really funny but also really sweet.

A little update <3

I still read all of your lovely replies! I have not given up on art my friends! I have even started my own webcomic on webtoon! It’s called Seth In Space and it would mean a lot to me if you would support me there! Love you all and happy halloween!!

I’m so happy to tell you all that I’ve made great progress with my mental health!! To genuinely be able to say that I feel happy is so liberating and free! I know a lot of you are still in that dark place. I’m here to say that it does get better. Much better! I still have some tough days but progress is progress! Be kind and gentle to yourselves. I love you all and thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the years!
