why is it that when im reading fanfic i feel like i have a fairly good metric for if something is characterized accurately but when im trying to write suddenly its like ive never seen this character in my life. would he say that. would he fucking say that. suddenly i have no idea
(writes something) god this sucks so bad. this is awful. i'm the worst writer ever. this is nothing. (rereads it a while after writing it) oh dude this is fire. i'm the god of writing. (writes something again) god this sucks so bad. th
urban greenery and urban forests are important af.
they prevent flooding, as pictured in the image above, by allowing stormwater to soak into the ground instead of pooling and flooding.
they significantly lower temperatures and reduce the heat island effect, something we will need more and more as the climate gets hotter, by providing shade and releasing water vapour (tree sweat.) this also helps reduces the energy use from air conditioning, saves lives, and improves quality of life.
a lot of wealthier neighbourhoods have more greenery than underserved poorer neighbourhoods and those in poorer neighbourhoods are less likely to have air conditioning which causes more deaths, and reduces human health in general. it is also an inequality issue.
vegetation absorbs pollutants and improves air quality. forests are carbon sinks that pull planet heating chemicals out of the atmosphere and store them in the soil. forests are vital in the fight against climate change.
native tree species provide shelter and food for wildlife and planting native gardens and allowing native wild greenspaces is vital for pollinators which are vital for everything else alive.
spending time outdoors boosts mental health. urban farms produce nutritious food. outdoor greenspaces give people places to be active and shade produced by trees make it easier (and more fun) to walk places. its better for human health in nearly every way.
more greenery has even been shown to reduce crime.
and for all the spreadsheet-money-brained people out there: its good for the economy too. according to a recent study, for every dollar put into parks and recreation and greenspaces, cities reap $3 in local economic benefits as they attract locals and tourists into surrounding neighbourhoods to shop or eat.
basically, there is no good fucking reason not to plant more trees, grow more gardens, and allow more natural green spaces.
Why does the Arabic language have so many different forms of plural TwT
Can we keep it simple like the ال please :((
if english is 3 languages in a trenchcoat then arabic is 498594 dialects in a thobe :p
Spy x Family au where Anya reveals hers and Loid’s indentity to Yor first, as well as the fact that Anya knows she’s an assassin. After the initial freak out, Yor decides she loves and accepts her family anyway but also thinks they should come clean to Loid so the rest of the family isn’t keeping secrets from him. Anya warns that being very familiar with his psyche, if they flat out tell Loid all this information he may spiral into thinking he’s a bad spy for not noticing. So for the next few months the whole rest of the family is just trying to leave clues to their real identities around the house so Loid can feel like he “figured it out” on his own. Yor “accidentally” leaves her bedroom door open with a suspicious looking weapon on the nightstand. Anya keeps bringing up facts about Loid that he’s *certain* he never told her before. Eventually he realizes something strange is absolutely going on but continues to deny it because deep down he loves his family and is willing to look the other way to keep it together. This continues for two whole months until eventually Yor realizes they have no choice and they all just hold an intervention for Loid one night.
“honey, your wife is an assassin, your daughter’s a telepath, your dog is a seer, and we all know you’re a spy. And you may want to look into retiring.”
He's just a dog at this point. "Make him think he did it" 🤣
Love this idea.
I think the most hilarious place to put Post-Canon Sokka would have been the university at Ba Sing Se. I think he would have made a great unhinged professor. Also, in true Sokka fashion, he should have completely dodged fame. Momo is more famous than he is.
He wants to demonstrate to the class how this thing called electricity works, so he's going to be bringing in a Firebender, so everybody be cool, we're all friends here... and in walks Princess Azula of the Fire Nation. One-time conqueror of the city. One of the students is currently writing an essay on how her brief rule of the city affected fruit trade. She says she considers the class to still be her subjects as she doesn't acknowledge any pretenders to any of her thrones, but for now you're exempted from bowing and "Your Highness" will do. It's a really interesting lecture.
"Okay, guys - hey, listen up, everyone - I won't be here next week, me and Aang are going to-" yeah right, sure, Professor Sokka knows the Avatar. Except, of course, the Avatar walks in sheepishly and says that Appa might have gotten into Sokka's hybrid crops, and then you all have to sit there and watch your professor chase the Avatar around with a sword.
One postgrad student is specializing in Water Tribe Cultures. She's currently studying the massive cultural shift that happened in the Northern Water Tribe at the end of the war - oh, and Professor, I absolutely know that you're from the Southern Water Tribe, but it's just that the shift started with Master Katara, and of course I don't think that every person from the South knows one another haha it's just that I need to ask her some questions and I thought maybe you could help me write a letter or write a letter of introduction or...
Sokka looks at her blankly and goes "yeah, she's my sister. KATARA!" which is followed by a faint answering "fuck you!" from Somewhere and to the horror/elation of our postgrad, Master Katara bursts in and is promptly beaned in the head with a rock by Professor Sokka. Her brother. her hero and her professor are siblings and currently brawling on the floor.
Katara has many regrets in life but giving her boy the Jinshi Haircut is not one of them.
if i had a penny for every fic I read that mentioned back when she said he was like a bug in heat
partially-managed mental illness is so fucking funny i'll be sitting around doing my job and suddenly think "wow i hate myself" and immediately get confused because, like, that's not TRUE! i love myself so much. who are you to talk to me like that
