Frank frowned at what she said, took the glass and smelled it. “This is firewhiskey” he said a hundred percent sure. “Have you ever tried it?” He asked curiously. “It’s quite strong” he warned her.

Alice couldn’t help but make a face as he said the word Firewhiskey, it didn’t sound very pleasant. “No... It sounds gross.” She muttered, sticking her tongue out. Still she was brave and she took a deep breath and tried a sip, though quickly made a face and coughed, pushing the cup at Frank. “Nope. Gross.”

“Hey- You do not have better grades. At least not all the time” Vi rolled her eyes, pushing at Alice’s shoulder. In truth she liked having friends that were so competitive about grades, because it meant that she pushed herself to do her best. “Well you’re getting very close.” she smirked “You smoke too much.” Vi sighed, she wasn’t opposed to a puff every now and then, but it was very rare for Vi to even get high. She just wasn’t the type. “We- Well thats all it used to be. I don’t bloody know Alice.”

“Most of the time.” She said pointedly, grinning and leaning back against Violet again, nudging her fondly with her head. She felt so lucky to have Violet, she kept her motivated and made sure that she was alright. “We have been close for ages, it’s just friendship.” She was very insistent on that, Frank just wanted friendship and Alice had no issue with that. “I’m trying to cut back and you know it.” She said with a sigh. “Used to being the key word there.”

“I know,” she said carefully, eyes flickering to her children. Bill was eyeing them curiously, and Molly realized belatedly that now, perhaps, was not the best time to speak of the horrors of war; not in front of the boys. A time would come for them to be confronted with the reality of their world, but for now she wished to preserve their innocence. Molly sent her friend a glance, clearly saying, later, Alice, we can discuss this once the boys are in bed.

Molly wiped a bit of food from Percy’s cheek, a smile lighting her face as the young boy babbled. “There – Percy agrees with the notion. You love your Auntie Alice, don’t you?” she cooed, a bit of nostalgia tinging her cheeks. “Arthur and I thought the opposite – and oh, I don’t know, perhaps it was selfish of us – but we eloped because, well, we thought that with so much uncertainty we might not get another chance. To marry and have children, that is.”

Alice had already noticed how Bill was looking at them and she nodded at Molly’s look, the kids didn’t need to hear this, it wasn’t important for them to know about the horrors of this world, they could learn it when they grew up. She pushed her plate forward slightly, she was too stressed to eat anymore there’s was still too much to do when it came to her work. 

“Of course he loves his Auntie Alice.” She smiled fondly at the young boys. “They all do because I let them have sweets before dinner.” She teased. “Frank and I will have them when the time is right... Just not yet.”

Potions and Crushes || Nick and Alice || 1968

“With this particular subject, I completely agree.” He chuckled. Nick was known to excel at almost everything he put his mind to, and he worked very hard to make sure that that was the case. But for some reason, with Potions, he could never quite work out how to get it perfect. “Well I can hardly ever to excellent when it comes to brewing.” He said. “And look, this potions calls for the pituitary gland of a bullfrog. I’m going to feel bad for the dead frog if we botch it up now.” He chuckled. 

Alice hated potions, she was only in it because she wanted to be an Auror, other than that she was doing very well in her classes, her and Violet were rather competitive when it came to grades, though it was all in fun. “I just can’t focus o this today, there are so many other things to worry about too.” She groaned looking at the page with the recipe, this potion was weird. “Why do we even need to do this? I mean that poor frog.”

“I don’t know anything.” She grinned, sticking her tongue out right back at Alice. “Mm yeah sure. You’re a horrible liar Al” she sighed, finishing off the small braid that she had done in Alice’s hair and sat back “Oh please. Me and Nick, we, we’re. He enjoys pissing me off, thats all”

“Oh I can tell, that’s why I have better grades.” She giggled, teasing her. “We are! There is nothing but friendship and pot smoking.” She said, crossing her arms, though there was still a grin on her face and her cheeks were slightly pink. “Mhm, sure that’s all it is, Vi.”

Perhaps it was silly of her to fret over Alice when both of them were nearing the age of thirty (Merlin, she was getting old) yet Molly couldn’t help but worry for her friend’s wellbeing, especially considering the circumstances. This time, however, she held her tongue, not wanting to nag her more about taking care of her health when she was already eating.

“Oh, poor Alice. I imagine both of you are stretched awfully thin between Ministry business and Order work,” she said sympathetically as she spooned a mouthful of carrots into Percy’s mouth. “I know it’s probably silly to ask considering how busy you both are, but have you and Frank discussed children?”

Alice picked at her food some more, though really she was too stressed to eat and her stomach kept turning over. “Honestly, Molls, everything has gone to hell and back, we keep losing people and nobody knows what to do anymore.” 

She watched as Molly fed her son and she sat up a bit straighter. “You know if you ever need any help I will be here for you.” She laughed when she brought up children. “No Molly, it’s not the right time, maybe when the war is over.”

Gryffindor had won again and Frank was beyond thrilled. Last year’s performance had been quite shitty, but now they had real chances of actually winning the cup. As usual, whenever they won, they threw a party where there was food, drinks and good music. 

He and Nick had been celebrating, but at some point they separated and now he was wondering around until he saw none other than Alice. He couldn’t recall ever seeing her at a party, but he didn’t say anything. Not everyone had to like parties. He smiled at her and glanced at her drink. “I dunno, it depends… what is that?” He snickered.

This was horribly awkward, everyone was talking loudly and drinking and here she stood, holding a little plastic cup with some strange liquid. She wasn’t even a huge Quidditch fan, she had only come because her friends had convinced her too. 

She looked at the cup and raised an eyebrow. “I’m not quite sure... Some girl shoved it into my hand and I’m not sure where she’s gone.” It could’ve been Violet, but she wasn’t quite sure and she didn’t want to risk drinking poison or something.

Alice wasn’t really sure what to expect at this party, of course it would be a bunch of crazy Gryffindor’s, celebrating the Quidditch victory, but still, she’d never had a drink before. The blonde sat in her room, both her roommates had already left and she sat on her bed, she felt... Nervous, of all things. From her room she could hear the noise from the common room and she knew it was time, that she had to go to her first real party.

For the first five minutes she left her room she stood at the base of the stairwell, watching them all, that was until someone shoved a drink in her hand she glanced up to see a girl walking away from her. “Oh...” She mumbled, before catching sight of her friend Frank and approaching him. “So, you think if I drink this I’ll die?” She joked, looking at him with a grin.

“Well I don’t have any ideas of what to do, so I guess we can just do nothing.” The blonde said with a shrug, looking over at him with a bored look on her face.

“I am not! That is completely untrue” she gasped loudly, keeping a straight face for a moment, but cracking into a smile. Because it was true, she was the dramatic one, and Alice was the chill one. It’s why their friendship worked. “Mm. Yeah because thats definitely why you asked.” she rolled her eyes. 

“And that is a total lie, and you know it.” She said, tilting her head and sticking her tongue out at Violet. Alice was usually too stoned to be dramatic, she was also usually smoking with Frank of all people. “We are just friends, Vi.” She said, crossing her arms. “Just like how you and Nick are just friends.”

“If cooking up something is what it takes for you to eat, I’ll do it,” she promised, a smile gracing her lips as she began dicing up Percy’s food into small, neat pieces. “At any rate, it works as a marvelous excuse to have you over, doesn’t it? It seems like forever since we last caught up.”

Between being a new mother and the war raging on their doorsteps, Molly found little time to socialize. Still, she always cherished the visits of old friends, especially when it came to her former roommate. “How have you and Frank been holding up?” – here she paused to help Charlie spoon a serving of soup into his bowl – “I’ve heard from Fabian that things are getting worse.”

“I just don’t have enough time to eat.” She sighed, taking another small bite of her food. “I’m too busy. Though I am glad to have gotten this time with you, you’re right it really has been far too long.” She sighed, leaning back slightly.

The Auror’s had been busier and busier lately, with the war getting rougher there was less they could do, the only option left was to fight. “We’re doing alright, just trying to figure it all out. What we want to do with out lives outside of work.”

“Really? Your parents sound really cool, I had to beg my parents to put me into dance lessons when I was younger, they were more focused on my older brother.”

Now, you help yourself to some shepherd’s pie while I wrangle down the boys.” With one hand on her swelling stomach (twins, the healer had said), Molly peeked her head around the corner at her children, who currently were amusing themselves with a pair of enchanted model hitwizards. “Alright, darlings, dinner is ready. You can play with your toys later.”

As Bill and Charlie noisily shuffled into the dining room, wood scraping the floor with each shuffled chair, Molly picked up Percy and quickly transfigured a cushion into a sort of booster seat for the toddler. “There we are, love,” she murmured as the two-year-old settled into his seat. “How’s the food, Alice? If you need any salt, there should be some on the counter.”

Alice smiled, she loved having a friend like Molly she was always there to take care of her in anything she needed. “Of course.” She nodded grabbing a small bit of food for herself. She didn’t want to eat too much, she hadn’t been too hungry lately, she was far too stressed. 

The blonde watched as the children entered the room and she smiled at them, Molly had the cutest kids. “It’s lovely Molly, as always.”
