Rest in power, Ara Jo. You were one of the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful people I've ever known and I'm grateful for every moment we spent together. The top photo is from the beautiful shabbat dinner we made together last year at Sgraffito. I taught Ara how to make chicken & matzoh ball soup & we ended up talking & laughing until 2am. It's hard to believe that a woman who was so vibrant, creative, & full of life is gone. She will always, always be in my heart. I love you, Ara Jo.

Throwback Thursday! I was a teenage socialist. I've been doing activist work of various kinds since the age of 15. In this photo, taken at a friend's place in the winter of '91, I was 16 & at a planning meeting for an action protesting the Persian Gulf War. I don't know about you, but I'm really tired. I feel like whenever we take a step forward, we get knocked 5 steps back.
