I'm a little late to the party, so forgive me, but I've just watched the Thursday Murder Club movie and I found the ending so distressing that I immediately headed out onto the internet to see what people had to say about it. I'm happy to report that everyone and their mother is out to claim injustice for Bogdan.
On the other hand, I read so many comments complaining about the setting as they had imagined a "quaint and cozy retirement village" and I have to wonder what book they read? The main building is a converted convent with one wall glazed out to accommodate a swimming pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. The convent is described as having gothic architecture and would not have been a particularly quaint or cozy building and would probably been a lot more massive than people are imagining. Additionally, a chapel is still attached to the convent, which would essentially be a small church. Then three more residential buildings were built around the convent. So overall, it's a rather spacious and luxurious retirement home with plenty of lawn space, a natural lake, an artificial lake, both with ducks, and then the 20 llamas.
Also, unsure why everyone seems to think the residents weren't wealthy? I think you'd have to be to live there? People keep saying, "How could a former nurse like Joyce afford to live somewhere like that?" which is baffling because, are you talking about the Joyce whose daughter manages a hedge fund?
Anyways, sorry for the rant, but I just couldn't understand why this take was so pervasive.
