Midnight Confessions - Part 1

“David! Would you mind handing me the decoration right there? The one on the table!”
“Erm… the yellow star or the blue moon?”
“The yellow star! Can’t have a starry sky without stars!”
David used his wand to loft up the twinkling, lifelike star decoration to the girl who was propped up precariously above him on a tall ladder. The Great Hall was in the midst of getting the remodel of the decade - after all, it wasn’t every year that Penny Haywood was in charge of planning the Senior Soiree.
The seventh years of Hogwarts, in the days following their final exam, had a dance just for them taking place in the Great Hall, complete with music and a theme selected by the party’s manager. Penny, of course, was the perfect choice for such a role. Thoughtful in everything she did and keen to bring her fellow seventh years the best dance they could ask for, she’d been working nonstop for the last month in preparation - with David as her go-to helper.
Penny caught the star and fixed it to the ceiling with a spell. “There we go,” she breathed. “Now, even if it’s cloudy outside, it’ll still look like there’s a starry sky. What do you think?”
David grinned as he leaned back against one of the tables. “I think you’ve outdone yourself again, Penny.”
The Hufflepuff girl slid down the ladder and looked up at the ceiling thoughtfully. “…I don’t know. Don’t you think it could use more stars on the left side? Oh, maybe we could add a constellation!”
David grinned. “I think you’d better just take a break before you run yourself ragged.”
“Are you kidding? This is the kind of thing I live for. I never get tired of it.” She resigned to David’s suggestion and sat on the table next to him, grabbing her butterbeer and slurped the last drop from the bottom. “Are you excited for the dance?”
“Of course I am,” he said. “But I think I’m more excited for the party at the Hog’s Head Inn.”
Penny’s eyes lit up. “Oh, and the slumber party! I’m so excited, we’re going to be hosting it in the Slytherin Common Room!”
