Some aloe I painted for a dear friend of mine. Really working to refine my painting skills. Let me know what you think! 😊
Decided to be inspired by my plants and play in some green colors today 🌿 Happy spring y’all ☺️
Developing a Passion for Unusual Aloes
A guest post adapted from my friend Connie’s Instagram feed. Follow her there @chausiubaugrrl
When I first started collecting succulents, my de-facto choices were mostly big, beautiful echeverias. Whenever I entered a nursery, my eye would always gravitate to them. I specifically hated aloes and just could not understand why anyone liked them.
Fast forward a few years, thousands of hours of reading and researching, and countless trips to public dry gardens and private gardens of friends. Over time, my interests spread to other genera as my tastes in plants and their varying characteristics evolved.
Every genus, once it captures your imagination, has a multitude of traits to learn and discover. Plant taxonomists can attest to that since they are always discovering new traits which lead to reclassifications. I can now see that Aloe is a varied and interesting group, from the exceptionally large trees to stemless and sometimes even miniature plants.
The small but mighty Aloe castillioniae comes in many forms, but my personal favorite is the spiny clone in the first picture. The second image is either a hybrid or a smoother clone that has also captured my heart. They are both beautiful, and with the vast number of clones I could spend a few years trying to collect them all!
Absolutely love this collection ❤️✨😍
