What kind of world would it be without you in it, Ate Pors?

I can’t sleep. Like everyone who loves you, I’m still trying to grasp this new reality of life without you. You’ve always been there to give advise or cheer us up or rally us on. I don’t have the same deep well of positivity and ‘happy’ like you do. It was one of the most beautiful things about you I was always amazed about. How you can always hop back from heartache and pain and be your jolly old self again.

I will never forget how you said that anger feels so unnatural that’s why you choose to just love. Or how you told me in that one long heart-to-heart talk 13 yrs. ago that when we love, we should love and exhaust all options. Or how to just Live, Laugh and Love.

I will never forget how appreciative, selfless and giving you are. How you would always cherish even the littlest things we say or do. How you’ve been one of my strongest emotional support despite the fact that you were going thru tough times too. It was around that time that you started to talk about the Art of Giving and Receiving. Up to your last moments, you gave us a chance to see you or be with you, to be ready. But no amount of readiness can ease this pain and sadness. It still feels so sudden.

I am happy that you’re free now, that you’re already free from all the pain. I am happy that you’re now with your Inay and Tatay and all the furbabies that have gone ahead. Maybe Tita Glo and Tito Romy are already tired of the watching over them that they asked you to come over already and take care of them. I have a favor, please look after my furbabies too for the meantime. Pakisamahan na din si Papa magkape minsan. And save a surf spot for me.

Wala nang kakaladkad sakin papuntang kung saan with a dog in tow to babysit. Wala nang kukuha ng food shots bago kumain for the instagram. Thank you for all the memories we made. Thank you for all the adventures we did. Thank you for all the encouragement you gave me. Thank you for all the heart-to-heart talks, the videoke sessions, the food trips, and the road trips. Thank you for my birthday halo-halo treat last December that I’m so glad I took time to have with you kahit mabilis lang. Thank you for everything.

Next up in the ‘M songs’ series is ‘Make You Feel My Love’ by... Bob Dylan! I was very surprised to find out that this song is actually an original of his. Made sure to listen to it and the whole album it was in, ‘Time Out of Mind’. A stark contrast to Adele’s version and her album, in my opinion. From what I gathered, this song is the only cover song in 21. Adele wasn’t sure about recording it but it turned out to be one of her favorite tracks in 21. When I heard both versions, it gave me just one consistent vision–late afternoons on a grassy hill feeling the breeze while watching the sun set, just simply basking in that warm, golden glow. Last Monday, I asked you guys to tell me any of your favorite songs that start with the letter M to help me start my own design challenge. I’ll take a listen and illustrate or design something based on how I feel, think or reflect on your favorite ‘M’ song and post it here. The first song request was from @misiskorki and I have to admit, I had a hard time getting a feel of this song coz the lyrics and music sound really sad! Haha! This is Mandy by Barry Manilow. And here’s a little Trivia on the song: Barry Manilow’s ‘Mandy’ wasn’t the original version. It was originally titled ‘Brandy’ and sang by Scott English. He co-wrote it with Richard Kerr. An urban legend went around that the song was about a dog. Turns out, a reporter called Scott English on the phone while the latter was still asleep. It irked English so much, he made up the ‘dog’ story. But English said in a more recent & formal interview (he died in 2018) that the lyrics were about his life, about being afraid to leave his wife who ‘kissed him and stopped him from shaking’.
