honestly the new voice of nancy is... better? like it doesnāt hold the nostalgia that laniās voice has and it makes the game feel different but it just sounds so much more realistic and accurate for her age
you know what, fuck it. new Nancy is 10x better, she actually sounds like a teenage/early 20s girl and she conveys more genuine emotion than laniās Nancy
itās both better than i expected and worse than i expected at the same time. iām so sad that midnight in salem was the game they decided to experiment with, because it could have been SO BEAUTIFUL with the old engine. and i honestly love the characters.Ā
I thought Iād jump on the bandwagon and share my review/thoughts! I was actually excited for the show, so I think I started off a lot more optimistically than most people.Ā
TLDR: It was pretty much what I expected from the CW, and Iām hopeful that the second episode will be better!Ā
Firstly: Iām actually kind of pissed at the amount of people who are criticizing Nancy having sex? Like? Itās fine. Sheās a young woman, if she wants to have sex then why not? She can have sex and still be smart, ambitious, courageous, flawed, etc. Basically, all the things we love about Nancy Drew.Ā
That being said, introducing us toĀ ācurrent dayā Nancy via cringe-worthy sex scene was Not Ideal.
Nancyās internal monologue was seriously grating after a while. (āthe darkness found meā was particularly terrible)
But I love that we got sassy Nancy!Ā
I checked out a bit in the middle because I got bored? But I think thatās a hazard of a pilot episode -- thereās always a lot of exposition.Ā
I love Bess!!! Her ex-felon lines were very cute.Ā
Honestly, I love all of the girls. And when they started working together? *chefās kiss*
The seance scene was SO GOOD.Ā
Love all of the maritime lore.
No one thinks Ned/Nick did it, right? Iām not alone in that? The whole time Nancy was freaking out, I was just like: he didnāt do it, chill.Ā
Ace is so unnecessary.Ā
I was very distracted because I'm pretty sure theyāre reusing sets from The Secret Circle - which I loved. Especially The Claw and Nancyās house.
Final thoughts: it was cringey and cute, which is to be expected of a CW show. There are some things to iron out before itās even a guilty pleasure, but Iām hopeful! I loved the girls and their tentative friendship.Ā Ā
