Bear Necessities by Pencil-guy
In a moss-draped rain forest in British Columbia, towering red cedars live a thousand years, and black bears are born with white fur.
Look what I found!
Heâs real!! I love him!!
First time Iâve dreamt of you in four years where you werenât the monster. You were the way I try so hard to remember you. Sweet and gentle and caring. I miss our friendship so fucking much. I miss your sleepy 4am voice when you donât want to go to sleep but itâs so obvious your body needs it. I miss how strong your hands always felt, like you could always catch me.
I have a lot of doubt in my heart these days, and itâs really not the time to reflect. But I miss you, I hope wherever you ended up, that youâre happy and you have someone who is able to love you the way you deserve.

Legend has it, in the mystic land of Prydain, there was once a king so cruel and so evil, that even the Gods feared him. Since no prison could hold him, he was thrown alive into a crucible of molten iron. There his demonic spirit was captured in the form of a great, Black Cauldron. For uncounted centuries, the Black Cauldron lay hidden, waiting, while evil men searched for it, knowing whoever possessed it would have the power to resurrect an army of deathless warriors⊠and with them, rule the world.

This weekend I bought the box set of How to train your dragon. My husband, my son, and I all sat down together to watch them. When we got to the second film my husband looked at me and said he doesnât remember much of it, I agreed. I knew we had seen it I just got some reason could NOT remember any of it. He looked it up, and sure enough it came out in 2014, he exclaimed that of course we had seen it together. My heart fell into my stomach. When in 2014? June, late June. And there it was, my heart sitting so far in my stomach it was in my butt. You see, my mom passed away in April 2014, in May 2014 we lost our first child at 11weeks, and on July 1st 2014 my husband came home after being gone without contact for two days to sob on the kitchen floor and tell me he wants a divorce. It was and remains the only time my husband has truly let me down as a partner. In a time where we should have been rebuilding each other, and comforting one another he was seeking comfort in another woman. A younger girl, less broken, less troubled. I get it from an objective standpoint now. But then, I was ready to destroy them both with my bare hands.
We continued on with our movie and it was great. Until Stoiks funeral. My mom had always told me she didnât raise a princess, she raised a Viking, a Valkyrie. That we were made of the toughest stuff and we could persevere through anything. So hearing Grobber say âmay you ride to Valhalla and be greeted by valkyriesâ dropped me to my knees. I immediately threw on a jacket grabbed my vape and went outside where I proceeded to cry.
All of the pain of losing my mom was right there. 5 years after the fact, like I had just gotten the phone call all over again. And all I could fear for was my son. Iâm a type one diabetic, thatâs ten years off my life expectancy. My mom died at 42 of stage 4 breast cancer. My bio dad has been fighting stage 2 brain cancer for YEARS. The likelyhood that I make to 40 is SLIM. I know it, Iâve made sure my husband knows it, but my baby. I canât imagine him feeling this. Especially not because of me. And I know itâs inevitable, and I feel selfish for having him KNOWING he would have to face this one day. My husband would have to lose me again, and stay strong not only for him but for our teenage son.
Itâs on my mind a bunch now. That one day Iâm going to have to do the hardest thing Iâve ever done and let go. Just like my mom. And all I can do is prepare Cory and make sure he wakes up every morning knowing how much I love him and that he is without a doubt my very best friend.

âDo not fall in love with people like me. I will take you to museums, and parks, and monuments, and kiss you in every beautiful place, so that you can never go back to them without tasting me like blood in your mouth. I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible. And when I leave you will finally understand, why storms are named after people.â
