You woke up as you did many mornings, to the sound of “By the Seaside” blaring and your sweet cat curled up against you. Only today was different.
When your best friend, and fellow member of a local improv group, Chanse, encouraged you to audition for Smosh, you called him crazy.
“Right, because they definitely need another queer manic pixie dream goblin in the cast”
This went on for weeks until, unbeknownst to you, he slipped your name and a hard drive of your comedy “Best of” into a conversation with Ian and Anthony. This came to a head when last week, you received the email asking you to appear in the channel’s latest video- TNTL: Local Legends Edition. The video would consist of you and other comedy talents residing in the state of California performing alongside the established cast as a way to expand interest in the local improv/stand up scene. Of course, you were ecstatic. I mean, hell, who didn’t grow up on Smosh? You remember when Chanse had called to tell you he became a cast member, and the pride (and FOMO) you felt for him.
The two of you, growing up and going to school together in Tennessee had big dreams of being a part of something bigger. While his manifested into performing, you made a beeline into STEM. You worked your way up as a chemist, finishing your doctorate a couple of years ago. Finally, after the sleepless nights in labs and the countless research papers, you had found yourself working in a lab on the west coast, just an hour from the Smosh office, with a small comedy club nestled in between them.
What started as a place for you and your childhood best friend to reunite became a weekly ritual and escape from the labors of the workforce, and eventually brought you to where you were going to perform in a couple of hours. You kissed your precious kitty, Freddie, and got out of bed. Let’s make today my bitch or die trying.
