In the afternoon, you're out on the stone and grass And I'm sleeping on the balcony after class
ready, aim, fire!
been reading dave mckean's "cages" recently to try and get over my dislike of graphic novels. i am (as always) mesmerised by the energy of his pen and ink sketches, so i dug out my old pot of black ink and purchased a cheap dip pen from the art supply shop, because part of me still believes that if i use the same materials my faves are using then i will Unlock Secrets
"One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the king went to open it. It was a princess standing out there -- but good gracious, what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look! The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess..."

we had a new model for life drawing today! here are two 15-minute poses (coloured chalk and charcoal, as per -- i really need to start branching out into other mediums)
sketch from a visit to the V&A museum (featuring some moroccan tiles that i particularly enjoyed)
recent life drawing (featuring one of my favourite models). it's a repeat of this pose from a few weeks ago, drawn from a slightly different angle. foreshortening continues to be my nemesis
prompt: "famous flowers" (dandelions, creeping buttercups and morning glory)
WARNING!
saw some novelty condiment holders in a charity shop and they charmed me so much that i had to draw them
been getting into lino printing recently. here is a little gardener cat
illustration of irina and miryem from naomi novik's "spinning silver"! I read this book over the christmas period (appropriately, as it's a very wintry tale) and it reignited all my old love for eastern european folklore. i might do some more illustrations for it if the inspiration stays with me
