This is either madness or brilliance. It’s remarkable how often those two traits coincide.

… therefore I’ll share this, even though I usually don’t share personal stuff like that…
I came out as ace to one of my friends a few days ago. And I’m still stunned by the reaction. I was prepared for the usual questions, but no, not this time, for she had actually stumbled over the term asexuality before. That was a new experience, but the thing that utterly stunned me and still leaves me speechless when I think about it where the questions she did ask me. Nothing about if I’ve had my hormone levels checked yet by a physician or if I don’t feel like missing out or if I’ve even tried it yet or stuff like that.
No, she asked me how long it had taken me to figure it out because there’s so few information out there. She asked me if it had been hard for me before I found the term ‘asexual’, if I felt different and maybe a little lost.
She was truly interested in my experiences and struggles and how they shaped me and she was also truly happy for me to have found my place.
It was the most amazing coming out experience I’ve had so far. Freeing and utterly without judgement. I’m still smiling and in awe thinking about it, especially since she told me that I’m actually the first person from the LGBTQIA+ community that she knows of within her circle of friends, family and acquaintances.
I’m so damn grateful to call this amazing human being my friend.
I lose myself in words that don’t speak or say anything, in phrases and pronouns that tear me apart.
