I say I feel tired, when I hide and get quiet, because I can’t say what I feel. I can’t blurt out that I feel empty, alone, terrified; that I don’t have anything going for me. I can’t convince myself, that it’s just in my head, that I’m just overthinking, that it’s nothing to worry about. I can’t just cheer up either. Believe me. I’ve tried.

The shitty part about knowing someone, whether it's a friend, significant other, or a relative, who is a recovering addict is that everyone is always so eager to find out how that person is handling their recovery but no one ever asks how you, yourself are handling it as well.
