literally all I could think about while shane and yuna were having their Moment
Oh, forever I’ll be right where you left me.
Welcome to my usual metas where we hyperfixate over Arthur Pendragon’s love for Merlin. Today’s episode features this scene right here:
To remind you of the context, it was s03e12 when Camelot was besieged and Arthur just ordered Gaius, Gwaine, and Elyan to go find shelter in the woods. A second later, he looks at Merlin, diverts his eyes, and tells him, “Merlin, you should go with them.”
Which btw translates, in Arthur Pendragon's dictionary, to: Merlin, I want you safe, I want you away from harm’s way, but Merlin, Oh Merlin, don’t leave me. I really don’t want you to leave me. I sustain my strength from you. You’re the bravest man I have ever met. I keep going because I know you’re there. Don’t go and leave me. I am urging you to go, but please don’t believe me.
I really just can’t. Because you guys, Arthur isn’t scared to go fight an entire army of the dead. He’s not scared that he is limping and injured and definitely won’t make it. He’s just scared to do it without Merlin.
And when Merlin looks at him and says, “Nah, I’ve seen the woods already”, Arthur knows Merlin had heard it all, and chose the kindest response possible that doesn’t spot on his worry and fear.
Those fucking two.
Merlin: I told Arthur his ears flush when he lies.
Gwen: Why?
Morgana: Hey Arthur! Are you in love with Merlin?
Arthur, covering his ears: No.
Gwen: Well… I just lost a bet.
Morgana: Yes! Twenty minutes of head scratches!
Merlin, belatedly realising what Arthur just said: Wait, what?
So that’s what they’re calling it nowadays…

I know The Diamond of the Day broke all our hearts, but it never fails to crack me up how chill Arthur truly is with dying.
La mort d'Arthur has always been the purpose, his greatest feat. Isn't it a pure bravery of the heart when you accept death so easily, as something right and long-awaited? He wants rest, he wants peace. I think Arthur forgave his sister and his traitor right at the moment when the cold enchanted sword went through him, because he fears not.

Without Us?
I honestly find it sweet that Stede came up with the nickname "Olu" independently of Jim (when he first refers to Oluwande by that nickname Jim is still pretending to be mute)
The same with his open door policy. If Stede's door has a lock then he never uses it, because we see Lucius barge in (1x04), Izzy barge in (1x06) and Buttons wake Stede up (1x06)
In Lucius' case we clearly see he doesn't even bother to knock, he just lets himself in, already talking, until he realizes Blackbeard is in the room.
(side note, this would have been the easiest mutiny in history if Stede didnt even bother to lock his cabin door as he slept)
Oluwande is a polite young man who does knock & waits just outside the threshold until he's invited in, only for Stede to offer him (and Jim) a seat on his couch.
Like, when Oluwande is essentially grieving Jim's absence, it's Stede who he finds some companionship with. Idk if he asked anyone else after Frenchie & John, but if he did, they all clearly said no except for Stede, who once again offered his couch
He calls the library his pride & joy and he has no reservations about sharing it with his crew.
Like, this bizarre little man might be bitchy & selfish, but he does care about his crew. I don't think he was being entirely hyperbolic when he called them his family at the end of ep1.
I wanna see more of Stede's relationship to his crew in s2. We know they care about him (to the point that none of them could be bear to witness his execution)
And we know he cares about them enough to share his library, make an effort to listen to their suggestions, hold story time & make himself as available as possible to the point that Lucius & Buttons have no qualms over barging in on his sleep
Now I want to see him actually interact more with the members of his crew that aren't Lucius or Oluwande /=
Give me more Stede & Frenchie and Stede & Roach specifically
