Ever since The Fall Guy fandom has come back into the spotlight, I've been obsessed with these two. I know it's a incredibly rare ship, but I adore the pairing of Tom x Colt, which I've started calling TomColt.
In my version, Tom doesn't do nearly as regrettable things as he did in the movie, but he's still definitely not a perfect man. Still insecure as hell, rude to a fault, and hella needy, but he's redeemable. I'd get into specifics, but then that might spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it.
I had a lot of fun with the sticky notes, especially since i wanted them to tell a story.
A collection of ATJ doodles I made back in April to practice some anatomy. Pictured are Ives (Tenet), Ford Brody (Godzilla 2014), and Pietro Maximoff (MCU: Age of Ultron).
With Ives, I heavily headcanon that he has osteoarthritis which causes soreness and pain in his lower back as well as his knees, wrists, and other joints. He's managing it well enough, but the thanks the universe every day for the invention of heating pads.
For Pietro, I wanted to fix the eye SO BAD, but I'd redone it so many times in my sketchbook that the paper was starting to shred. So this was the result I ended up with. I'm happy with how the body turned out at least.
Finally, for Ford, I found an old picture of Aaron from the Godzilla era of his career and decided to use it as a reference. Brody seems like the kind to know a fair amount of boxing, though, so it fully fit the character for me.
i've had a fever since yesterday, having a really terrible time, so of course i get to cope with transferring it to a fictional character! sorry grace, you gotta get nannybot on the case.
can you get a fever in space? after so much time? well, let me have it, dang it!
(grace's star blanket very much inspired by @mistydoesart and their art of grace with a star pillow. i hope you don't mind i make it a matching set!)
So I started reading the book (Project Hail Mary) a few days after seeing the first trailer for the movie adaptation. I finished reading it after a month. Needless to say, I'm obsessed.
As such, in preparation for the movie, which I absolutely cannot wait to see, I've done some drawings. Please enjoy this little assortment of Ryland Graces alongside some silly Rockys.
Feel free to leave suggestions for future PHM drawings and/or share your personal headcanons for these two. I'd love to hear them!
Because I can never draw him enough, here's another ATJ character from earlier in his career. As such, here is one Ford Brody from the 2014 film Godzilla.
I definitely like the first film a lot (along with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire that just came out). It felt very grounded and had a satisfying yet enclosed story arc for our main couple. I'm glad they were able to get away from the craziness of the Monsterverse world.
No idea if I'll draw him again, but I very much enjoyed making this doodle.
Furthermore, if Ford Brody ever DOES make a return into the Monsterverse universe, he absolutely needs to meet Bernie for a good Tangerine and Lemon reunion XD!!!
They first met while Heath was on a mission. His cover was about to be blown when this gorgeous woman swept him away and pulled him into a dance. She saved him that night. And eventually, she'd save him again when he finally left the mercenary world behind.
They all have SOME connection to Carson King (Immovable).
Character Info Below
Derrick Well (Unstoppable): The other half of the immovable object vs unstoppable force paradox and Carson King's former nemesis, now mentor. Like Carson, he is not completely unstoppable. Rather, he redirects absorbed energy/impacts into a forward momentum, making him NEAR unstoppable. He's been in the hero scene far longer than Immovable has been on the SDN's radar. Derrick has a wife and daughter he cares for greatly. He's the one who got Carson into the Phoenix Program. Already, he's pleased to see how much progress the other has made. Both former nemesis are in frequent contact with one another.
Alden King (NYOOM): Carson's King's younger half brother. His power is the ability to fly... but only up to a foot and a half in the air. To make up for this limitation, he's learned how to fly incredibly fast and with great precision (with a lot of practice of course. He ran into a LOT when he was just getting started.) Alden has a good relationship with his older brother despite their father trying to put them at odds against one another. Carson's goal is to one day get Alden OUT of the criminal underworld so he doesn't end up going down the same path he did.
Wyatt Harlow: Wyatt works as a daycare attendant for pre-school aged children. His ability is that of a calming aura. So long as he's able to make eye contact with his target, he's able to help calm down their emotional state. However, this comes with the downside of empathy as he feels a fraction of what they are feeling in that moment. He is currently the daycare teacher for Derrick's daughter. He is also a HUGE fan of Prism's music.
His character concept came from the immovable object vs unstoppable force paradox. More info on Carson below.
Appearance:
Carson’s build is not particularly sculpted, but he does have a lean musculature that shows an active lifestyle. There are no rigid lines of abs adorning his body. Instead, he embodies a softer look, the lines less defined and more implied. He does not have a lot of bodyhair, but what he DOES have is well maintained.
He stands at 6 feet tall with dark blue-grey eyes that shine like the sea. Dark brown curls frame his face, his bangs occasionally falling into his eyes when it gets mussed up enough. His hair is not quite long enough in the back to be a mullet, but it is kept at a longer length in the back than the rest of his hair. A mustache adds to this retro look, which he maintains carefully with his grooming set at home.
Clothing wise, Carson adores vintage clothing and leather jackets. Frequently, he’ll go for a jacket and t-shirt combo with jeans and boots, but anything from the 90s or earlier usually fits his vibe. (Though he does prefer modern shoes to anything retro.) His ears are pierced, his preference of earring ranging from studs to cuffs, to rings. He also has an enjoyment for jewelry such as rings and necklaces, though he doesn’t have a single design he sticks to constantly.
Personality:
Carson is the kind of person who was raised on memes and unrestricted access to the internet. He’s a jokester with an endless supply of quips and references to things people likely haven’t heard of. Though he was too young to witness vine himself, he’s seen all the compilations on YouTube and quotes them religiously. He’s sarcastic and witty and generally just a goofy guy. He thrives on physical affection, often bumping shoulders or throwing an arm around a friend when he’s in their vicinity.
Of course, he’s not all fun and games, though. He knows when to get serious and focus on the task at hand. While he may not have always been a good guy, he wants to help people. He wants to make a difference and he wants to MEAN something. He’s always felt more at home when he’s part of something bigger than himself or in the service of another.
Family means a LOT to him, and by extension, his friends. His loyalty runs as deep as his stubborn streak, and it’s damn near impossible to get him to abandon ship when someone’s gotten left behind. He hides his pain and trauma behind jokes and hopes no one looks too closely to see the cracks.
He struggles with emotional regulation, meaning he feels each and every one of them strongly. He’d always been taught to lean into his anger as it makes him strong, and it’s a hard lesson to forget. Fortunately, he’s working on this aspect (and more) with a therapist, so his outbursts of emotion are far less frequent than they used to be.
Abilities:
The very basics of Carson’s ability is that he cannot be moved. He is the immovable object lauded about in numerous paradoxes. No one can move him unless he moves himself.
In more specific terms, if his body is touching a surface (works through shoes and clothing) and his center of gravity / majority of weight is pressing down on said surface, there is not a thing anyone can do to move him. It’s as if his body is rooted exactly to that spot for all eternity.
Furthermore, while remaining still AND conscious, he is incredibly resilient to outside blunt force. If a car rams into him while he’s in this state, the car will simply break around him but cause him very little harm. This “invulnerability” stops when he moves, rendering him just as vulnerable as a regular human (with the exception of small movements like breathing, head and hand movements, and flexing.)
This immovability does NOT stop when he is unconscious, but it does not trigger the invulnerability passive ability.
If the surface his center of gravity is pressing on becomes destroyed, he will be movable until the next surface hits his body.
Moving surfaces (such as an elevator, escalator, or cart) will still move if he is on them, but he cannot be removed from said moving surfaces unless he steps off of them. He CAN be carried, but he has to put himself on someone’s back or lift his feet personally from the ground if carried bridal. He is not heavier than an average human, he’s just immovable.
Finally, his power is completely useless in zero gravity environments OR if he is airborne/unable to stand on a surface. He cannot “stick” himself to vertical surfaces as his center of gravity cannot change directions.
NOTE: For a very basic explanation, his power is based on Mjolnir (Thor’s Hammer) from the MCU. Only he who is worthy can lift the “hammer”. And only Carson is worthy.
History:
Carson was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to a rough family. His mother was an amazing woman who loved him quite dearly, but she was only with his father to keep him from a broken home scenario. There was no love in her marriage, just obligation to Carson. His father was a criminal, and a fairly well known one at that. He had a whole crime ring under his name and didn’t really pay Carson much attention until he was almost 9.
When he DID take interest in Carson’s life, it was only for what the kid could do for him and what crimes he could commit for the good of the ring. Small hands can fit into small places, after all. His father turned Carson against his mother, filling the child’s head with lies so he could gain more control over the impressionable youth. He convinced Carson to commit small petty crimes, using his affection as leverage against the elementary schooler.
All of this came to a head when he turned 12. His dad got busted by local authorities, but not caught, and decided to run away to LA for a new start. Having convinced Carson that his Mom was a horrible person, he went with him. The crimes he started participating in increased in risk and reward. He became a delinquent at school, frequently getting in trouble with his teachers and the other students.
Shortly after settling in LA, Carson’s little brother (from a new woman his father strung along) came into his life. The now 13 year old forged a deep bond with the infant, vowing to protect him no matter what. He’d finally found a reason to fight for all the things he was doing; so he could provide for his brother.
Carson drops out of school when he’s 17 years old and becomes fully inducted into his father’s gang. He received a rank within his father’s middle circle, which allowed him more say on what jobs he took. Everything increased in intensity as he finally got to see the inner workings of his father’s criminal network. He was proud to be a part of something larger than himself.
Around this time, the hero Unstoppable (nemesis) starts to make a name for himself. Immovable, as Carson has taken to calling himself while on the job, starts to find himself facing off against the hero more and more often. They become enemies, Immovable winning some battles while Unstoppable wins others. Their back and forth goes on for years.
Everything eventually comes to a halt when Immovable (24 years old) gets cornered on a bridge over the water after a big job goes HORRIBLY wrong. They’re high enough that any attempts at escape via jumping would injure (if not kill) him on impact. Carson considers jumping anyway. Fortunately, Unstoppable is able to talk him down. Immovable surrenders himself to the police and gets taken to jail.
Surprisingly, Unstoppable keeps up a correspondence with Carson while he’s in jail and becomes a positive influence/mentor in his life. It’s Demitrius (Unstoppable) that gets him to join the Phoenix Program once it opens up past its trial phase. (Carson served 1.5 years of his 10 year sentence). Though it’s a difficult transition, he slowly starts to learn what it means to be a hero.
Carson’s father disowns him after his arrest and downright despises him when he joins the opposing side. No son of HIS was stupid enough to get captured, let alone tricked into being a traitor. Because of this, he started trying (and failing) to turn his little brother against him.
Thankfully, Alden thinks his father is full of shit and likes to sneak out a lot and visit Carson whenever he can. Caring father that he is, the crime boss never notices when the little rascal is gone. If things go his way, Carson eventually wants to take custody of his brother and start a new GOOD life for them.
Right now, it all feels like an impossible task given his history of incarceration. Still, he has an apartment now and keeps a bed ready for his brother whenever he visits. One day, he also wants to go back and visit his mom and apologize for all that he’s done to her. Plus, if he’s being honest, he misses the snow.
Robert, you’re drunk. Go home with Chad and get some sleep.
Honestly, I just wanted to draw a drunk and flirty Robert, so this is the result.
—
HEADCANON TIME:
I imagine Robert is a pretty confident guy in most aspects, but when it comes to taking the leap and closing the gap in his relationships, he lets the moment pass. So a tipsy or drunk Robert acts on those moments rather than letting them slip by. Hence, he decides to flirt with the local fire starter.
Otherwise, when drunk, I feel Robert is more the sleepy drunk type who smiles easier and loosens up on that strict workplace attitude. He’ll definitely need to be carried home at the end of the night.
Flambae, on the other hand, is an emotional drunk who just blurts out whatever he’s feeling at a certain moment. His filter completely vanishes (not that he had much of one to begin with). His alcohol tolerance is much higher than Robert’s though, so it takes quite a few drinks more to get him drunk enough to word vomit his entire life story.
Beef is of course there to get them through the inevitable hangover because he’s a good boy!
I come to thee again with more dispatch art, this time in the flavor of FLAMBERT! I kid you not, this ship has stolen my sanity over the last two weeks and it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. (More art of them is on the way, I just need to draw it first XD.)
I had a lot of fun drawing this piece, even though the pose gave me a lot of trouble to get right. Multiple attempts and half an eraser later, I finally got it to work, and I’m very happy with the end result.
—
The idea behind this piece is Flambae finding Robert after a difficult battle/mission and looking over the clearly roughed up man to assess his injuries and reassure himself that Robert is STILL alive (albeit, likely concussed.)
Needless to say, he’s not going to let that man out of his sight for a good long while. And I’m sure there will be plenty of cuddles in their future once both of them are cleared by medical to go home.
—
EDIT: I just realized I forgot about Flambae’s missing fingers on his right hand, but I’m too proud of this hand to erase and redraw so I’mma pretend JUST for this drawing that they were never lost.
A new hyperfixation has landed. I waited until the entire game was out because I was unsure if it would interest me, but I can safely say I’m a huge fan now.
My favorites immediately became Robert Roberson III and Flambae (and of course I fell for the ship too).
These doodles were mainly just me trying to figure out how to draw their faces, but I definitely have future drawing ideas with these two and probably others. At some point, I also need to draw Beef!
But anyway, in the meantime, enjoy my small contribution to the Dispatch fandom!!
So, I've fallen into one of the rarest of rarepairs out there: IvesNeil.
Ever since I first saw @roxiechang's art of these two, I've been obsessed with them. (Thank you for fueling my creativity and sorry for the ping.)
The idea of these two characters being long term members of Tenet falling in love during the biggest fight of their lives is just so endearing for me. I especially like how they contrast personality wise; one of them being a hardened, no-nonsense, tired veteran of the war while the other still has such hope for the mission and the drive to do anything he must to complete it.
I have so many thoughts on them that I can't even lay them all out coherently here.
So instead, all I will say is this. There will be more.
Tangerine has been such a fun experience in figuring out his features.
Though he's played by Aaron Taylor Johnson (who I draw a lot), his hair and expressions are a lot different than those of his other characters.
Slowly but surely, I feel I am finally starting to get the hang of him. I eventually plan on drawing him with Lemon and/or Ladybug, but I still need to figure out how their features work.
In the meantime, enjoy these two Tangerine drawings.
Head Pat: Pietro is a touch starved dork and no one can tell me otherwise. Someone runs a hand through his hair and he IS going to lean into it, especially if he trusts the person.
Posing: The whole inspiration for this drawing was me listening to pop music (specifically You Love Who You Love by Zara Larsson) and imagining Pietro sassy dancing to it.
