Kisumi: I saw it at the premiere.

Asahi: For real!? Why didn’t you ask me to go with you!?

Kisumi: That’s because it was during spring break, and you weren’t in Tokyo yet.

The Dirty Dawg Chapter 3 Translation Notes

Hello, thank you for being patient for this chapter! Here are the translation notes for it. I don’t have too much this time.

Translation Notes

The rebel soldiers’ “Yes, sir!” was written in English text in the original. I don’t really have a clue as to where in the world this chapter is supposed to take place or who these rebels are trying to seek independence from, but it could be possible that they come from an English-speaking country. I don’t know. It’s an interesting bit of world building.

I played up the “game” theme in some spots of Ramuda’s dialogue to match his playfulness and to give him more of a consistency with his rap in this chapter. For example, the “It’s game over” line comes from him saying “set”, which I interpreted as him meaning “It’s the end of the set” (like in tennis), but I rephrased it to sound more natural and to be more obvious.

Name Trivia

Major Gordini’s name is spelled the same way as the Gordini car line, hence my decision to make his name be “Gordini” over “Goldini”. I don’t think there’s any particular meaning to this naming choice other than having an obviously non-Japanese name.
